Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

YAY found a way

in start screen
type free up and select the option under settings tab.
run it on c:\ once you're in click at the bottom "clean up system files". Once you're back into it you can now select old windows and delete it.

you may or may not need to run that batch file.

Word of advice, DON'T BUY UPGRADE - it nightmare for some of us went horrible wrong! Microsoft should have TESTED every motherboard first but I can understand now, it all about tablets, they don't care about pc or laptop face a problem.

Stay with windows 7.

So its well over an hour no of looking at this blank black screen. The what the he'll am I supposed to do now?

rofl, says someone who's tried installing it before its released.

its certainly not all about tablets and there will always be a few who have issues, its unavoidable.

According to MS it is the most tested OS ever released with 1.2billion hours of testing. That's to all off us who ran the previews.

Can this be installed fresh. I don't really want to delete my 7 install just yet so was going to install this on my other SSD. Is this possible or do you have to upgrade ? I have created a USB stick of the install.

? Just going to install can I boot from the usb stick I created and install on a blank drive..

Thanks.. :)

Well after sorting out my drivers (same as Windows 7 really but had to go hunt for one thing) everything is now set up :)

Only issue I've run into so far is updating apps. Set it off updating them and came back to it and there were loads left but it was doing nothing. Restarted, checked for updates and apparently it managed to update them all before

This is my first time with Windows 8 and I'm really, really struggling to see how this is good on a normal laptop :(
I have it on my laptop and have spent most of my time at the desktop just like with Windows 7. It feels snappier. The main thing is that it's current so is a good idea to have it and to upgrade for £14.99 or £24.99 it's a no-brainer.

I like the new Task Manager, lots of info on there.

Yes but you won't be able to activate and there are some issues like Windows Updates fail and it reverts during the next reboot. Also I couldn't change the Windows Theme.

I ended up cloning my Windows 7 install to a new drive and running the installer inside Windows 7 and choosing the keep nothing option.

Installed a breeze on my PC ...

Had to remove Microsoft Security Essentials in order to install, rebooted the PC and asked me if I wanted to carry on where I left off, chose to do so.

Started installing - went downstairs, got a phone call from my Dad about half an hour later to ask how mine was doing (as he's installing too)...

Went back upstairs, it was asking me for my colour preference, chose the semi-light blue as I find it most aesthetically pleasing.

My Dad said he'd been stuck on 2% for a long time...

So it's installing on people's PCs quite differently... the most noticeable difference between mine and his PC is that I have an SSD 120gb drive and he has an SATA drive...

I'd have thought it would be down to the software and existing state of W7 more than anything though given he's not on a slow PC.

First impressions - well I've not read much at all about how the Windows 8 is /was going to be and I'd only seen screenshots. It's strange clicking start and then having a tablet sort of GUI then being able to go back to the desktop of "old".

IE is blazingly fast I must say, making me wonder whether Mozilla will retain me as a customer!

It's certainly quite nippy in general, the new OS!

I can't see this working now, had really thought ms would have sorted this kind of crap by now.
They have successfully f'ed me right up now.
So I have hit the restart button, booting got the new w8 logo then it went to a blue screen, saying the windows installation was not successful, something about a restore and now it's booting back to w7.
You couldn't make this crap up.

Could be an issue I need 20GB and have 6GB free. Only have a 60gb SSD for O/S. Think I will need to trim it down a bit..
