Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

Could people who have successfully downloaded and installed, post hash codes for their ISO.

paypal with your paypal account wouldn't work though, guess their anti fraud system has kicked in or something, or they didn't lift their payment limits.

Woke up this morning and the download is (finally) complete.

So I have created a USB media stick AND a DVD and copied it to a external HDD drive in case.

Let's hope it installs the right one? I could not see any option whether to download the 32-bit or 64-bit version?

It will download what ever you are currently running

(edit: confirmed, thanks Glaucus)

Ok I've just installed Windows 8. It did the '64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor' in control panel. Took me about 1 minute to find, lol. Seems strange so far. Downloading drivers and updating windows currently.

Question: I assume, since I have selected to "upgrade" and purchased it when I was on a 64-bit operating system, it has created a 64-bit disc/usb files for me???

If for instance I have a Windows XP 32-bit pc and I want to say upgrade it to 64-bit because I can...could I use the same disc/usb files I installed my current 64-bit OS on but use the CD-key that came with it on my XP machine?

did others get a compatibility warning about secure boot?

'Secure boot requires firmware that supports UEFI v2.3.1 Errata 3 and has the Microsoft Windows Certification Authority in the UEFI signature database.'

Yeah I ignored that quite happily :p

If you upgrade a retail version of Win7 Pro to Win8 Pro download for £24.99 does that mean your Win7 Pro license is no longer valid?
and does it mean that you could use Win8 Pro like a retail version, which would allow an install on different hardware.

I'd really like the answer to these as well.

How can you upgrade if the OS you want to upgrade isn't installed? I have a copy of Vista that I'd ideally like to upgrade from, although I have Windows 7 and Windows 8 installed on my computer.

When running the upgrade assistant on Windows 8 I get this:

On Windows 7 the upgrade assistant is stuck on 'checking apps and devices.'

This is frustrating.

This is the message I get, Going to have a play when I get home tonight. When you say you tried an unformatted SSD how do you mean. Did it have your previous version of windows installed on it?

What I did, is secure erase SSD, and ran from usb penflash (that I had create from upgrade earlier on) and I try clean full installation, it work and it accept upgrade product key and got it activated. There is no previous version of windows on unformatted SSD.

There isn't a retail version of 8 and the new oem does allow you to install on different hardware, so long as it's only installed on one device at a time, so I'd imagine the upgrade would too.

You can purchase the upgrade using any machine and install it on another one. Can you fix it that way?

I decided to do a fresh install instead of continuing to use Windows 8 from my Windows 7 upgrade.

I booted from the Windows 8 CD I created, entered the product key and it allowed me to format my SSD and install Windows 8 from fresh. Boots a lot more quicker now:)
Were you able to activate though?

only started downloading this morning and only use mobile internet but am already at 25%, I was expecting it to be far slower.

Looks like I'm not going to be getting it today :(

I thought with a pre-order I would get it on the day! But it seems as though that isn't going to happen.

Order Status: In our warehouse queue

Last time I pre-order from OcUK that's for sure! :(

Installation note: (as I always do) I clicked on my existing Windows 7 installation partition (Disk 0 Partition 2) and clicked delete. I also deleted the 100MB small partition (Disk 0 Partition 1) and clicked on the single file to install. It installed and activated fine.
