Just picked up the new Asus 27 IPS Monitor

Excellent, detailed review as always!

Back when the U2713HM came out I think I asked you which semi-glossy 1440p monitor you'd go for and you said the Dell. Is that still your answer or has the Asus won you over?

Hopefully I can finally settle on a monitor 6 months after I started looking at them :D.

The Dell still holds the edge for me. USB ports, cable tidy, no PWM for backlight dimming, better out of th box setup and factory calibration, even a reliable sRGB emulation if needed. The Asus is still very good, it's just the Dell has a few added benefits IMO

Baddass, do you know if this monitor suffers from "crosshatching" like the 2713HM?

However the PB278Q shows better contrast and blacks, and low pixel response and input lag, no?

Thanks :)

The cross hatching issue some users were getting was what made me hold off getting the Dell as it was another factor along with bad back light bleed that would force me to send back the monitor.

If a good copy of either panel was guaranteed I probably would choose the Dell but the first batch of them seems to have more QC issues than normal. They're so similar that I'd be happy with either but I really don't want to faff around with DSR's and returns if it can be avoided. I think I'll catch up on U2713HM threads and see what's going on with the current batches. Thanks for the help.

Just received my replacement directly from Asus, this time no bright light artifact in the center of the panel and no dead pixels, but this time i've worst backlight bleeding, very apparent at 28% brightness top right of the screen ARGHHHHH! It's almost white light so it sticks out.

If I put pressure behind the panel directly where the light bleed is it goes away! This is bad quality control, how can they possibly not detect this when testing the screen.

Looking around it appears that all recent Pb278q monitors have blb in the uppermost right hand corner. Surely they're all from the same batch?

Ya the right upper corner seems to be the most common place for blb on these monitors. Mine had a little bit bleeding in all corners but the top right corner was the worst with a bit yellow glow. I dont even think they test these screens on a black screen. I feel sorry for you man, im in the same position waiting for a replacement. Ive allready passed the 7 days return policy so im stuck with it but ill just keep sending it back till i get a good one.

Seems this monitor have color uniformity problems. The color of the left side of my monitor is warmer than the right side. People at HardOCP forums seems to have the same pattern. Also there's a guy who say that this problem happens on most PLS monitors...

Someone took a picture of the problem: http://i.imgur.com/1Cl0P.jpg

Do you have this problem too?

Moniotrs and Lcd's, i must say it will be profitable business if it should start. I have seen a lot of persons who have been selling Monitors & Lcd's They are earnig a handsome profit. This is a business in which there is no loss i am sure as computer is being use in every house today. This business requires low startup cost and the return of its huge.

Checked the screen today, and the blb has disappeared! Full brightness and it's barely noticeable. I'm not sure if it is because i applied pressure behind the screen where the blb is?? Good news anyhow.

not really

Asus = 858:1 contrast ratio after calibration at 120 cd/m2, Dell = 869:1

Pixel response times pretty similar between the two as mentioned in the review although the Asus has a little more overshoot in practice.

Input lag slightly less on the Asus at 16.6ms, but i wouldnt call it a drastic difference between that and the Dell at 22.2ms
