Of course it's no longer valid, it's an upgrade. Why do so many people ask this. It's kind of in the name, upgrade. It's not a new license. It's an upgrade to an old license. It's been the same since forever.

Looks like I'm not going to be getting it today
I thought with a pre-order I would get it on the day! But it seems as though that isn't going to happen.

Why don't you cancel the order and download instead? The DVD is likely to be an older image than the download anyway so you'll have to download a certain amount of updates anyway.
Well because if you go and buy a retail copy of Windows 8 Upgrade version, your original license remains a valid license. I was wondering if the same applied to this digital version.
No it doesn't.
You can downgrade back to your old license on any copy, you can not and never have been able to use both versions at the same time. So if you have win8 installed you lose win7 license. Same when win7 upgrade came out, you lost vista and so on.
I don't have a legit copy of windows to activate it. I'm running the release preview & I don't have any old copies laying around.
Plus the money was taken out of my account last week!
O I see, I take it you went for the OEM version then, bit naughty billing before despatch.

I've had other places bill before dispatch but at least it arrived on the day. I'm hoping it'll come by the end of the day but usually it would say it had been dispatched by now.

If I download the digital version does it start the install straight away or can I do it at a later date?
Also my laptop is a dell inspirion 5010 , I don't think I got any hard copy of windows 7 with the laptop but I think I have backup discs which I created would these discs be what I need if I were to go back to windows 7 in the worst case scenerio?

I'm waiting for my 8350 pd and it says exactly the same.
Money has been taken out of my account already as well.
I checked out the upgrade for £14.99 and I got a promo code, they don't ask for any detailed info about your W7 purchase so I just put in a purchase date later than the second of June and my mobo brand as the PC manufacturer, I think it checks your system spec through the browser.

You can do it later as you will have the option to create an iso which you can burn to a DVD or make a bootable USB with.
If the laptop is running W7 you wont need the discs unless you want to restore to W7 but then you'll need to downgrade the W8 licence as you can only use it on one OS at a time.

Whats the best option when installing then ? can I go straight to the installation process after download or should I create an ISO?
Im a bit of novice when it comes to this , only done it once and that was with W7 but that was a full version hard copy.

The thing is, It is release day they should have been sent the stock yesterday for dispatch today, I've never known any company not to have the software/games in on the day of its release. Always the day before!
Plus it is saying on the site that it is in stock with immediate dispatch.
Yes, best to think of it now as drive optimisation rather than defrag, still does defrag but only on spinning HDD's.
Mine is still downloading, but I'm going to create the iso and then a bootable usb. If something goes wrong you have the install media to retry that way.
