I pre-ordered Win 7 Home Premium for £44.99. Fully flexible retail version with 32 and 64 bit DVDs. It has been very good.

Microsoft should have made a similar offer for Windows 8! (IMHO)
 
My box fresh unit is showing it's build version in the bottom rh corner, it's not been activated as I don't have internet access yet. Are all unactivated versions showing this?

Yes but the upgrade license needs to have some way of proving that you have a qualifying product. Maybe entering a previous product key might have been better.

same with my piledriver cpu release day a Tuesday. The website says stock expectd today. Gibbi 5UB have said not expected now until end of next week
 
Not yet still considering it. Is it true that Metro restricts you to displaying only two apps at a time, like even if you have a 30" monitor? Or has this been changed?
 
exactly. two options. two prices, fully compatible versions.

i honestly wouldnt mind paying 40 quid over the 25 for this.

it seems even odder when people are reporting you can install to a fresh HD with the £25 download, so why hasnt this been advertised? (and confirmed?) its been **** poor planning and communication from microsoft. i have 4 potential installs i could be buying, instead im trying to work out what the best deal half the morning by looking at how other peoples installs are going.
 
To avoid any potential problems I did a clean Win7 install using a retail box and key, installed a network driver but no updates or other drivers, then ran the £24.99 upgrade using the 'keep files only' option. Took about 25mins, worked fine and found most of the drivers as well - I just replaced the MS nVidia driver with the proper nVidia ones.

I also burned a DVD for the future.

Using a multi-monitor setup the 'charms' on the edge that joins the other screen can be a pain and getting used to having no 'start' button will take a while but other than that it's OK - think I'll get used to it. Steam also seems to take an age to load but is same as before once it's loaded.

Yes - as someone else said - TIFKAM Apps do look silly full-screen on a 27" 2560x1440 display!! If I really get fed up with having to press 'desktop' after logging in there's always these start-menu replacement tools.

No need to pay £24.99 for it when you get it for £14.99 no matter if you qualify or not ;) Stuck W8 on USB, booted from it, done a fresh install and bam W8 activated.

Price is a bargain,faster bootup and shut down,lots of free stuff including games in Store,better battery life then Win7 with laptops etc... basically you can do everything that Win7 has to offer and more,so I think so,I did not meantioned improved security as well.
