Hi chaps, I'm looking to build a budget gaming rig for my auntie for her to give to my cousin (her son) at Christmas. She has a budget of £450-500 (only if it is really worth it) for me to spec and build him something decent. He requires only the case and all internal components. He does not need the OS, keyboard, mouse, monitors, speakers, etc.

I've been researching into the AMD (Trinity) A10-5800K Black Edition CPU with the integrated 7660D but it doesn't seem all that powerful! I think I may be better off with the i3 rig I spec'd with the 7850. What are your experience with this?

He will be playing games like CS:S, BF3 and I think he plays FIFA..

I have come up with a build (see below). What are your thoughts? Or if you have more cost effective suggestions be my guest! :)

Edit: Just curious, Stulid what benefits does the Gigabyte mobo have over the MSI? I had those 2 boards up initially but went for the MSI for the look/design in the end. The GB board you picked always looks so distasteful at the low end.

Digital audio out.

DualBIOS.

The voltage options aren't locked if you upgrade to a CPU that can be heavily overclocked.

Huh? Of course I'm being tight, it's a budget build.. :p

I don't see the benefit of a modular and more expensive PSU on a budget build.

Edit: Thanks Stulid :)

G840 has a fair bit of poke and is cheap enough to justify "writing off" later for an i5K even if it was a 2nd hand 2500K. The 7950 is very good and comes with plenty of games, she could hold back a couple of the games as another gift. I realise it's a little over £500 but I thought it was worth putting out there.

It's a good build an worth putting out there. I'm thinking of contributing to the build for him myself and a newcomer to our family is as well. So we may look into upping the budget for him so he can have a nicer rig.

The 7950 is a good card, I'm just not too sure about the G840. I know she won't want to just buy another CPU later date. Ideally need to see what I can conjure up with an i3 IB and a 7950.

I remember you deliberately leaving it out of your build..........and what a disaster that turned out to be ;)

I didnt leave it out of the build.... Albiet I might not have included in spec but I certainly ordered one. The Samsung ones is the one I have. It just doesn have Samsung on the front ;)

I remember the USB stick format fiasco and you did say you were leaving the optical drive out to save cash. You are such a blagger lol

Think you have me confused with someone else lol. I was using USB since I was using the Windows 8 trial :p

No you originally wanted to be a cheap skate and leave it out of the build to get better parts. You still owe me a million pounds by the way. You didn't format the USB stick correctly to install the OS.......remember now ;)

Any who that's off topic. I look forward to seeing what the new budget is and seeing what we can put together for the budget. I know Sparx is pretty good at spec'ing, I've seen a few of his suggestions to other forum members........always nice to have a second opinion though :D
