Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

It's annoying because I would rather there was only one instance of Chrome running.

Yup, me too. I don't understand why they are bundling Chrome Metro with Chrome Windows. They are identical in looks and I can't see why anyone would want to use the Metro version instead of the desktop one. At least IE 10 Metro has the proper look and feel about it.

TO DELETE WINDOWS.OLD.

Hover over the right till the bars show.

in search type

cleanmgr.

select your c: drive

press clean system files

select c: drive again

tick all boxes (make sure you tick previous windows installations).

ok

finnished all done.

And I have windows media centre ad on installed and working fine.

Something is weird here I dont seem to have cleanmgr on mine, it does show in my search.

Found it another way, System and Security, Free up disk space.

30 euro for an upgrade is tempting me but, fixing somthing that is not broken is holding me back. I think I'll wait a few weeks and see how it pans out. How long is the free media center deal for? Is it the same as the windows 8 offer?

Just another thing, on boot uip jsut before the slide up lock screen, I get a blue window asking me if I want to boot into Windows 7 or WIndows 8..how am I getting that?
I installed a lot of Programmes to a second drive, could this be tripping it up ( clearing out that drive now)

I swear you can't make this up.
After binning all the old stuff now when I boot I get the old style scrolling bar then allow res startup repair screen comes up saying it cannot repair this computer properly. Then just reboots to the same thing!

so is windows 8 worth it then as ive just been accepted for the upgrade offer £14.99

Only you can answer that, however in my case I would say yes,its fast and very stable,no issues with my drivers or software so far and loads of free stuff in Store.

Happy I upgraded from 7 :) .

I have 3 PC's running Windows 7 and to be honest I'm still very happy with 7. I did try 8 a while ago but didn't like Metro.

But I'm reading people are buying Windows 8 from between £15 and £25, I've even read (HUKD) that someone was able to purchase a license and use it on up to 5 PC's!

My question is, should I decide to purchase Windows 8 for all 3 PC's what would be the cheapest way? I don't mind doing fresh installs etc.

Not been on it for long - only half an hour last night and just booted it up today... I miss the old start menu! :(

If you really can't do without the start menu then Start8 is brilliant.

I believe its an add on or am i wrong ??

It is an add-on. It's supposed to be free until Jan 31st 2013 here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs. The key isn't coming through for me though. Probably just in a big queue somewhere.

We'll need some kind of Windows 8 app recommendation thread now. :)

Need a Metro tiles screenshot thread as well. I can't think of anything useful to do with it, need some ideas :)

WMC keys are coming through slowly, read one guy in a different forum just got his key after 17 hours wait, still waiting for mine however but in no rush.

Well I've found out that the acer updater program is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard since I doubt that it has even checked for updates as it was in local mode when I decided to run the program myself (I'd expect that local mode would be akin to offline mode in a web browser), and it isn't even using the latest version which seems to confirm that it hasn't connected to the internet to check for updates since I got this laptop.

I've decided to put the upgrade off until tomorrow since I'm waiting on the USB drive I'll be using to put the upgrade onto, unless I can get the ball rolling now by using the £14.99 upgrade offer for newer computers (as long as it doesn't do any checks to confirm the information I've entered).

It will give me enough time to complete the last part of my backup process which includes my iTunes library, music that I only have on that computer and the rest of the files I couldn't fit on the two USB drives I already have (I need some space on both as they count as backup for other files I'm working on currently).
