Is Windows 8 even worth it over Windows 7?
nice to know that can be done , is it easy to do that? as I guess there is a few games that would need to be run in desktop mode.
cheers
Not been on it for long - only half an hour last night and just booted it up today... I miss the old start menu!![]()
If I buy and install the £24.99 Windows 8, can I later install it on a new PC and wipe it off the old one?
I installed w8 upgrade on a new, unused SSD. I did, however, already have Windows 7 installed on another HDD connected to the computer. This is the message I get, Going to have a play when I get home tonight. When you say you tried an unformatted SSD how do you mean. Did it have your previous version of windows installed on it?
No need to pay £24.99 for it when you get it for £14.99 no matter if you qualify or notStuck W8 on USB, booted from it, done a fresh install and bam W8 activated.
Yep easy to do,on my upgrade it put Steam and Origin in Metro anyway, all my Steam, and Origin games run fine, was playing them lastnight.
they don't work anymore.
if you have steam pinned in metro how do get it to run automatically in desktop mode once clicked?

All Windows software that is non-Metro (i.e. not from the store) will run just as they did previously by switching to the desktop. Don't worry ken. It will all happen automatically.![]()
can you be more specific how you got it for £14.99?

I am finding there are two instances of Chrome, one in Metro and one at the Desktop. All Windows software that is non-Metro (i.e. not from the store) will run just as they did previously by switching to the desktop. Don't worry ken. It will all happen automatically.![]()

To sign up for a Microsoft Account it loaded Chrome via Metro but it wasn't my desktop Chrome as I had already configured settings and added my bookmarks.
I tested by switching to the desktop and loading Chrome then back to Metro and loading Chrome again and they were different versions and I could configure and set bookmarks differently in each instance.
It's annoying because I would rather there was only one instance of Chrome running.
