there these still commonly used anywhere in the country still?

a few years ago it was a very regular occurrence to see them in Essex, usually in locations they would repeatedly use but at various times.

i dont think ive seen one in years

Seen one coming from Edinburgh coming through one of those villages with reduced speed limits not long ago, chap in the opposite lane was nice enough to flash his lights to tip me off though!

They are regularly used but largely in the same spots. I have quick browse at the beginning of week on BBC [Local] website and check where they'll be located. For last few years the spots have remained 80% the same 20% 'Community Concerns'.

Damn, doesn't work for all areas. Seems nice to know where they are beforehand,...,,.. its a trap!

Went past one in Surrey about a week ago, 10 police officers (mostly PCSOs) standing around, one of them with a speed gun. Like the idiot I am, I'd muted my radar detector so didn't spot it until it was too late. Was pretty much resigned to getting points, but I stopped on the way back to have a chat with them and turns out they were pulling people over then and there, so I must have been under the limit. As I was talking to them a guy in a 320d got pulled over and issued a ticket, he didn't look too pleased.

I remember someone getting arrested/fined/similar for flashing/alerting drivers of a speed trap.

On a side note, they always say they don't hide their cameras but it's a load of toss. The amount of times I've seen hidden ones is shocking.

They are all over Scotland compared to Lincolnshire. Having said that there are a few roads that bikers particularly like and they sit on them.

Since moving to Scotland though I hav seen many more at all different times of day.

Quite often one on the A60 in to Mansfield 30mph, got caught by one a few months ago in a place I'd never seen before, kid was going mental in the back, and forgot about the 40-30mph change at the top of the hill, zap 3 points. Although when pulled over and they took my details and she asked engine size, she was like 5 litre? 5 LITRE? FIVE LITRE??!!! Priceless expression.

Yeah they hide round here too, another place is them parked in their camera van blocking an entire cycle path.

Another favourite haunt for them is on the A24 just round a shallow bend in the road. Just before the bend is a fixed speed camera so they catch the people who speed up after they passed it. Again it's not the safe place as they are on a slip road.
