Stolen bike :(

Kinda shows that even an angle grinder doesn't draw attention in a busy city.

The best way to keep an expensive bike safe, is not to use it for commuting, get a cheap pile of junk instead.

I watched that programme before I made my choice and I'll take my chances that non professional scrotes won't spend over 5 minutes angle grinding in a busy hospital.

An angle grinder or blowtorch won't do anything to a decent lock. You'd need a plasma cutter to get through one.

There is a site I went on that gave times of how long it takes to cut through with an angle grinder and the site was put together by similar testers who were in the documentary.

The implication of my statement would be that your lock is not decent (by my standards), not that what you are saying about your lock is wrong. ;)

This is the Kryptonite New York M18 and takes 5 minutes to cut through with an angle grinder which is a lifetime for a thief (and you can't open it with a Bic pen either :)).
The cable is only 12mm though so if somebody can link to something better I'd appreciate it.

Angle grinder would have no trouble cutting through that fence though. :)

But about 20 seconds to cut through that hollow post you've locked it too :p
They would still not be able to ride it away though, but that said someone with an angle grinder is gonna be a more pro bike thief who would most likely have a van to chuck it into :(

**EDIT** Beaten to it! lol

Why would Superman want to steal your bike ?

When my old housemate was in uni, he clamped his bike to a rail that had about 30 bikes on it. When he got back, some guys had torn the whole railing out of the ground and taken all the bikes with it!

I have the exact same for about £70 lock and the £10 rope.

This thread upsets me, knowing they are getting away with it. I lost 2 bikes taken from a shed £700+£200 value. I still don't have info.

ANYONE HERE - PLEASE log all your bike info as serial numbers and photos or get a tag so you can prove its yours.

GPS you CAN buy them theres ones that mount inside your handlebars and no one would know. In your SHED lock the bikes together and secure it please - I do not want anymore people going through what I have in losing 3 bikes.

Makes poor sense but I lost mine in this thread.

Glad you got your bike back! well they say mum always knows best and this proves it LOL :D.
I got 3 bikes and would be dreadful if someone steals one of them, luckily gf allows me to keep them in the spare room!.

Did they steal it with the Kryptonite New York M18 or that is what you've got now?

Well I lost my keys to them. I found out weeks before my mum had them, I should have locked the bike in the shed with them but never but had I of had them given to me months back I would have...

It was chained and locked to my sisters bike. Both bikes were taken out god knows how they got them out into the front as our entry is SLIM at the garden side. Unless they've jumped into another garden and out through another root.

I had my bike stolen before and got it back and before that attempted. I USED the krytonite lock at a local newsagent and there were two people by, I was careful but came out and it was ok - the day after was similer only I left to find the place full and my wheel missing. The wheel was on the road far away ... there must have been 10-20 people about and as I unlocked my bike and went to get the wheel some *SWEARS* picks it and tosses ontop of the shop roof, I could have dropped my bike and ran but they'd get off with it. It was some 17-19 yr old girl and she ran laughing - had I of hit her I'd have an army to deal with.... the police wear pretty much useless. I could have locked both wheels but they'd puncture it.

the next time it was stolen, I was lucky to find two chavs with it, I demanded it back or if its yours we'll get the police he came at me so I hit the *swears* to the floor and told him I knew where he lived and I am gunna torch his house and the thing was, people were at me - women, parents, old people saying "leave him alone" and "that lads robbing his bike get the police". I told them "this **** broke into our shed and took it, it's MINE and got off.

to be honest I have no time or patience for these scum bags I've hated the youth (sorry NOT all - some are sound) here, over time it gets to you if I was driving and saw my bike again I would probably knock him down by accident (ok too far)

I am buying CCTV soon - will have a thread.

another thing NO MATTER WHAT VALUE YOUR BIKE PLEASE REPORT IT PLEASE. DONT WHINE ABOUT STOLEN BIKES IF YOU DONT REPORT IT EVEN IF THEY ARE USELESS ITS STATS
