These always end in a willy waving competition over who's been here the longest. I signed up to the pre-released beta developers edition of ocuk

There have been times when moderation did my head in, times where I wanted swearing to be allowed, however now I realise it's far better without all that crap. I must have matured!![]()
Looking at my post count and how long I've been here I'm going to start a race to the bottom

And the no hot linking rule is just ridiculous, basically everytime I want to post a picture now I have to download it to my hard drive, then upload it to imageshack (or similar) thus cluttering up the web with duplicate data that needn't be there. I don't understand the reasons behind it either, why do OCUK give a **** about other people's bandwidth usage, they let you post Youtube vids directly so why is it OK to use theirs but not any other sites that has a picture on it (which uses a tiny amount of bandwidth compared to a video).
Whine about hotlinking
And the no hot linking rule is just ridiculous,
Because hotlinking abuses peoples bandwidth (there's 40k members) and when they find out it was hotlinked here it doesn't give Overclockers a good impression. Youtube host their own videos and make money off the advertising.

The reason behind it is that sometimes people can change an image to something not family friendly iirc.
It's not to do with bandwidth really, it's to do with the fact that the host can (and sometimes does) alter content to something other than the original, sometimes breaking the rules quite dramatically. The person who posts the "link" is not to blame for this of course, as they did not change the image, however they should know better than to hotlink. People don't know better than to hotlink, so it's not allowed.
If that's the case then why do admins just remove the BBCode 'IMG' codes leaving just the URL like they did here...

That doesn't get around the problem of someone changing the image to a 'non family friendly' image does it?
Because sometimes, even the admins get it wrong.
I nearly typed something a little more crude, but I thought I'd leave that to a less refined trade group![]()
