TalkTalk really gone downhill

Having praised TT for their affordable broadband in the past, I've started to have problems and now fully understand why TT deserve their reputation for shocking customer service.

My broadband is now dropping regularly every day. Their answer? Buy a new phone. Close call.

Anyone got a suggestion for an alternative provider?

I moved from TalkTalk after dire customer service.

I have been with SKY ever since, the connection has been very good.

Just ask to be put on to a technician and be persistent. Problem solved.

No it didn't work like that for me with TalkTalk, but thankyou for your helpful advice

I was with them around 9 months, everything seemed OK, I was getting a monthly bill and the service was fine.

Then one day I came home and my internet was down, I tried the phone and it was totally dead.

I have been cut off without warning for non payment of bills? WTF?

I had received no warning letters from TalkTalk on the contary I had 9 months worth of bills and payments.

It turned out that somewhere along the line, despite the fact that the first 3 payments went out perfectly they had made an error (not me) with my bank details, the account number was one figure out.

Instead of a warning, a phonecall, an email or a letter I was cut off, this had possible negative effects on my credit rating despite making regular payments (or so I thought).

The same day I met a SKY salesman in the street, I told him what had happened, he took the case over for me, got me reconnected free of charge (BT wanted a reconnection fee!) and I have been with SKY ever since.
I don't have TV, just phonecalls and unlimited broadband, it costs around £23 a month with line rental.

I can't grumble at all

Can't justify the extra cost, to be honest. I'm trying to cut back on bills (getting rid of LoveFilm, Sky TV, contact lenses).

I just want a solid connection, not the fastest connection.

VDSL is usually more reliable than ADSL, due to the lower amount of copper involved. Have a look at PlusNet FTTC. It's pretty cheap if you take their line rental.

It is possible for your phone to be adding noise into your telephone circuit, and that could be causing your loss of connection so their answer is more or less correct. However once you test another phone you should be able to get it escalated to a fault.

Please excuse me if i'm staing the obvious, but to expand on Tealc's point above,
Ensure you have an ADSL filter on every point. Disconnect all your phones, plug your router into the primary socket (where it comes into the house).

Nothing more you can do really.

Yeah, just make sure the wife/kids have not been tinkering by adding another phone to an extended socket or re plugged the skybox without a microfilter. But yeah TT suck, my mate worked for them, they treat their staff as bad as their customers according to him.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought microfilters prevented the phone from using broadband frequencies, and preventing the broadband using phone frequencies?

Or does it not work like that?

There's only 1 socket in use (nothing at all plugged into the extension), and that has a faceplate with built in filter.

Try plugging it into the test socket and see if this makes a difference to your speed, this bypasses any extensions and whatnot in your house.

Despite microfilters bad phones can still cause issues with broadband.

I'm actually unsure wether a low pass filter actually works in a reverse direction as well as it works in a forward direction, or at all.

I would not touch TalkSh*te if they were the last ISP on the planet. I really can't be bothered typing out my experience with them a few years ago but I would have a few disconnects every day and around 4pm ish speeds would always go to a crawl. And I mean about 5 to 10k a second. The exchange was not over crowded as there was only 200ish people in the village. Then magically at the same time every night (12:30am) speeds improved :/

After countless calls to their "tech support" trying to fix the issue of the disconnects and them swearing blind they do not traffic shape / deep packet sniffing or throttle I said sod off and told them to end my contract. They did after several threatening calls. I went to another ISP and everything was sorted. No disconnects and speeds around 6.4mbit. 8mbit was the fastest I could get.

Moved shortly after that and ordered my beloved Be Unlimited (which I had had in the past) and have been with them since. I'm just about to move over to Fibre with BT so I'm excited to see how quick it really is :)

Moral of the story, avoid TalkCrap like they have an STD or something. Horrible company and zero customer service. Go with Be Unlimited or BT's fibre if you can :)

Im with TT aswell, they were the only LLU operator in my area and I needed to get off Sky Connect service. They have been ok so far, ive had one problem with one of their crappy routers but the best way to get hold of them is via their support forum. I never had to ring them.
