When I decide to do a fresh os installation on my main ssd does it pick up all my games automatically once fully installed? Is it really that easy??

Thanks

Not really. Fresh OS won't pick up the games automatically. Some of them may work if you find the launcher exe, some won't work without a reinstall. And don't forget to find all your save game files.

Nope, the fresh install doesn't know what the files on the other drive relate to. You'll need to reinstall using the original media.

As above - backup any save games before you start.

Oh, I thought the reason behind installing all games etc on a seperate drive was to avoid reinstalling everything after a fresh is install. Its literally only to keep the main drive free from clutter then??

Depends on what games you are talking about.

If the games are Steam games then it's really easy to backup.

Oh the old drive where your games are installed, rename the folder, then download and install the Steam client and login after you done that, exit the client and copy and paste all your game folders from the old Steam folder into the new Steam folder be it common, name, whatever folder it has to be.

Start up Steam and all the games will be installed again.

Remember to back up the save folders that are elsewhere in the old OS or you lose everything.

You shouldn't have any problems when starting the games, some might want to update and download a few files, but I only ever had that once or twice after many installations.

CD installed games will still work but I recommend you reinstall them again.

For the ones that might not work will it ask for the installation cd to fix missing files??
If it's the same OS as before it usually just small things missing, the odd DX file etc. I recently upgraded to W8 from W7, that didn't go quite a smoothly. Had some odd one's, 4 or 5 out of about 40. Physx (even though I don't have it??), NET, C++ redistributable. Funnily enough Steam sorted itself out, just started the exe from the second HDD and it reinstalled a few files and started right up.
