Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I rang up reference the 30meg speeds I was getting, the lady on the phone did the logging on and seeing I mucked any settings things (which I hadn't) said hang on a minute and put me on hold.
Came back on and asked me to do a speed test now, 85meg!

Engineer will be out in the next 48 hours to sort the junction box properly she says.

Well following up from my problems earlier, I managed to get to the bottom of it. Just really disappointed in the company that it took threatening to leave to find out the truth.

I live in a flat and due to recent floods the equipment has developed a fault inside the building. They need to replace the equipment but apparently they can't get hold of the managing company for the building to get permission and have no ETA. So seems like they would've happily ran me around in circles until I told them that I was leaving but then ironically bearing in mind they can't provide me service anymore, they are terminating the contract. Back to ADSL for me!

R37 firmware going out to everyone that signed up tomorrow.

We'll be updating all the remaining trialists, those already on R36T13 and those not yet on the trial, starting early tomorrow morning. Once we've confirmed that they've been successfully upgraded we'll work to give you access to the trial forum over the course of Thursday.

Maybe this explains for why my connection is horribly slow tonight?

done a speed test just and getting around 11mb...cant play BF3 online OR watch you tube in anything other than 480p or its laggy/stops completely.

pathetic..this isn't what i pay for.

No. Just typical VM. :)

im guessing you use speedtest.net for your speedtest ?

Which server do you use for the comparison?

so does that mean the people that beta tested R36 automaticity get R37 to test?

I'd assume you'd have to sign up separately because some people who beta tested R36 and are now happily running the final might throw a hissy fit if R37 was sent out to them without permission and it contained bugs.

well I've posted on VM forum 3days ago about if I could join the R37 Firmware Update, I've had no reply, I've also PM the forum manager on 26th but no reply

VM forum is really bad in that sense.

It looks like you just missed out the applications closed on the 26th, it shouldn't be too long until its pushed out for everyone anyway if its okay.

I came to the Networks & Internet section as I was gonna start a topic about my Youtube speeds, but after checking a few pages here it seems it maybe Virgin?

Basically, most of the time I cannot stream 720 or 1080 from Youtube. It'll just about manage windowed and even sometimes flips between 480 and 360! It used to be fine. I have 100Mbit and I always get full speed on Speedtest.net, other streaming sites work Netflix etc, just seems to be Youtube.

Is this a Virgin thing?

I can do almost anything perfectly fine, however when trying to buffer even 360p during the day it will not do it. Last time I checked in 3 hours my internet managed to buffer a whole 3 minutes of 360p footage on YouTube. Come around 2/3am and I can buffer 1080p within seconds. So it does seem to be an issue but who is causing it can be tricky.

I do seem to have some issues buffering on most stream based services however no were near as bad as it is on YouTube.

But good luck getting Virgin to admit fault.

I also don't get really any buffering issues with most online streaming content (iplayer etc)

but youtube is appauling - very bad buffering issues - I thought it was at youtube end, but the more I read on here it could be a Virgin network issue ?

I'm on 100mb, but often I can't get 720p/1080p to buffer properly

it also seems very random, literally one minute I can't get even 480p to stream and buffer, yet 3 mins later, same content 720p will have no issues at all

I've been having video streaming (YouTube and Vimeo, not iPlayer) issues for weeks now. There's a big long thread on the Virgin Media forums with lots of people complaining. Every few pages or so a VM person comes along to say that they're looking into it.

I get this too, it's really irritating when some YouTube videos buffer up in 1080p really quickly and others take an age for even 480p. I had trouble with iPlayer the other night too trying to watch the Top Gear Bond special. Ended up downloading a 720p encode in about 2 minutes instead
