Pop into a local store and try them both out, the HTC will have Sense 4 which simplifies the UI a bit but has loads of options to personalize it. The S3 uses bog standard android so its very fast but limited options to personalize outside of rom modifications.
I have the HTC One X and love it, brilliant phone does everything I could possibly need it to, other than make me coffee.

As with all decisions like this. The only way to tell which is right for YOU is to go and try some out in a local store.
Also, what is important to you in choosing a mobile device?.
Screen quality/size and internal storage most important.
I just need to find stores that have the One X+ to try, as it such a new phone.
The screen on the S3 is great and it comes with an SD slot which means you can have up to 128gb total storage.
Not sure about the One X+ but I had to sell my One X as the battery life was so short and bought the S3. Not regretted once jumping ship.
The S3 screen is not as good as the One X, but it is by no means bad and I believe that the Amoled tech is one of the reasons for the better battery life. I used to get about 2 - 3 hours screen on time with the One X whereas I get 5+ with the S3.
Nexus 4 by miles!![]()
Latest tech + latest software + subsidised cost >>>>>>>>> limited storage (USB drives can be connected)
It should only take few weeks for any real issues to surface with N4 retail units, I'd wait until then before getting anything else.
Don't forget phones like the HOX+ start loosing software support after 6 months as new models roll in. Something to consider coming from a well supported old phone like the 3GS.
I'd of thought that the software is upgradable like any other phone?
It is but official support by the manufacturer can disappear quite quickly as new models hit.
That's why having a good custom ROM community can be a plus.
I have had an iPhone since the 3GS was released, but have decided to jump ship to Android.
I am choosing between the Samsung Galaxy S3 (LTE, 64gb) or HTC One X+, but can't decide which to get.
Any suggestions?
Go for the One X+, better build quality and the SD card slot on the S3 is pretty much pointless anyway as you can't install apps to the card.
