Comet sale TODAY 9AM

Oh dear. apparently the was a bit of an incident at our local Comet store while my sister was there earlier, it looks like the contractors who do their home installations found out their not getting paid for any of the work the have done for the past few weeks so a bunch of them walked in, got in a profanity shouting match with the manager (who wasn't best pleased with the prospect of becoming unemployed with no notice anyway) and then they picked up a couple of large plasmas* and walked out with them lol, the staff didn't bother trying to stop them either :D

*may have been LED or something, my sister isn't that clued up on TV's

Disguises myself as a contractor and heads back to Salisbury store.

Had a quick look as we could do with a new fridge, as reported mostly 10% off prices that were 20% too high anyway - some display TV's at about 30% off though which dont look a bad deal

Buffy....worth reading the thread just for your post.

I wouldn't waste your time. Went to the comet in Salisbury earlier most items had 10% off but it would seem as mentioned by others that they'd inflated the prices.

Oh and iPads cost a lot more than £100. :)

I went in hoping for reduction on a Xbox 360 only to find they don't sell consoles in that store.

I was in there yesterday and it was the same, 10% off most things, up to 30% off HDMI cables etc....and I looked at a 8GB SD card and it was £34.99... that was the reduced price!!!!! (I bought the same brand and speed but in 16GB for £16.99 online last month)

And they wonder why they are in administration??????

Got any bolier suits Castiel?

Will disguise ourselves as contractors and kick off!

Just been in, total waste of time. Chocker of people looking at stuff, looking at their partner saying "Not worth it" and going home.

When the store is full of people, but no one is queuing to pay, your doing it wrong.

Everytime I go in there (same applies for purple shirt and indian food place) I get jumped on from all the staff wanting to hit their sales targets.

I like how people think on laptops its going to be massive price drops on laptops and I can tell you profits on laptops are normally just in double figures. Same with iPads hence everyone is similiar sort of figures for price. Brown goods bit more healthy and then stands and cables and certain AntiVirus software massive margins. White goods similiar or slightly better than Brown goods. So saving 10% on certain goods is going to be under cost.

Went earlier, as people are saying. 10-20% off. Not many people buying anything and the people that are buying are the type that see a hdmi cable for £1 cheaper so feel the need to buy a basket full. Although i did see coffee makers being carried out lol.

If its like the best buy fire sale, they will increase the discount every day. Just remains to be seen what people have left when there is a decent discount.

That was really annoying, went in to find no decent discounts (wanted a sound system).... went back a few days later and not much improvement (did get a cheap bedroom TV for the mother in law though).... then went back a few days later again and all of a sudden the store was largely empty as the discounts had suddenly ramped up. Seems to all be in the timing with these fire sales, I guess you need to just turn up when the store opens every day in the hope the big discount is starting then. I suspect there are some vultures that wait until a real bargain shows up and then clear out the stock to put on ebay.

Can understand why they do it though, sell as much as you can for modest discounts before really slashing the prices.

The white goods and kitchen stuff has large discounts, but entertainment goods are meh.

Jolly frustrating as we bought a dishwasher from Comet only a couple of weeks ago!

some people really need to think over there claims of what electrical stores make profit margins wise on tv's when i picked up my plasma a couple of years ago the price difference between currys and a local specialist place was 25% (currys being the more expensive of course).

from my time working at currys the target profit margins at christmas where always 20%+ to hit a bonus and the better stores where hitting just shy of 30%.
