Will BE ever do fibre optic?

Be's LLU equipment in the exchanges is only designed to support ADSL2+ type throughput, and a GEA/LLU approach is the only way they could reasonably support unlimited fibre so they can't sell it yet. However, they are rolling out a complete rebuild of their network as of August, which will support all of O2's 3G/4G backhaul and FTTC/FTTP products. It won't be finished until next year though, although I guess they could start selling FTTC on the exchanges they have upgraded (mostly London so far).

My exchange was due to be upgraded on the 17th of October but it didn't go ahead. Off to a roaring start already.
As far as I know (from the stuff O2 sent me regarding it), it's 'just' a distribution layer upgrade, nothing to do with edge network provision.

I'm on O2 and looking to migrate to FTTC when it becomes available at new years (hopefully!).
 
Getting annoyed with BE, seem to get at least one drop out per evening, and when peak time hits its impossible to stream anything without buffering all the time. :(

I had similar problems a couple of weeks ago but fortunately it appears to have sorted itself out, I see quite a few posts on the BE forums about the same thing

Looks exactly like BT's 21CN project except probably a bit quicker due to fewer services offered.

Nothing necessarily mentioned about rolling out FTTC, but that's not really surprising as you want to get your ducks in a row before offering new services like that (plus it sounds like they're adding resiliancy for the backhaul, not a bad thing).

It wouldn't be so bad if we were in the darkest depths of Wales, but we are in Cardiff FFS, yet have to suffer with .76mb of bandwidth or run Fibre at a cost of 50k+ :mad: Total *****.

That sucks, what happened to the plans to get the best internet in Europe? Luckily I live in Chepstow though, which got fibre optic about a year ago.
 
Update:

Been on fibre for a few days now and so far so good:) BE tried asking for more dosh than I owed them but "chris" from Russia or wherever the call centre is now got his sums wrong and "Martin" has sorted it (hopefully)
 
Two days ago I'd handed my notice in with Be and now I'm in the process of moving over to BT's Fibre internet. I really did not want to leave as I've never had any issues or questioned about downloading too much. They've been fantastic.

I did ask the guy when Be was releasing a fibre product and the guy said they might have something in place by the end of next year. He offered me a discount on my current price plan and I must admit I was tempted but in the end I said thanks but no thanks and got my mac code via email a few moments later.

If in the future Be roll out a fibre service and it's a good price I'll jump ship in a heart beat. Until then I'll stay with BT.

Roll on the 16th November :)
 
A discount on your current price plan? How much? I might try it even though I have no intention of leaving. (BT Infinity only says I could get 32Mbits which is only 2x faster bizarrely.)

I did notice today that Be no longer advertise 24Mbits on their website. They say max speed is now 16Mbit. When did that all happen?

It's 24, but advertised at 16 as a majority couldn't get near 24Mb.
So you will still get 'up to' 24.
