New family bus...

These are such awesome bits of kit - utterly hopelessly dire for road use but they make up for it by being so great off road and also looking so timeless.

Get a cheap DVLA plate for it and it could be an 08 not an 88 :D

:D Fox

Ben, impressive how you could tell the make of a tyre just from that picture! Yeah, they were pretty bad on the road. I certainly wouldn't have liked to have done motorway speeds on them. I suppose the lift kit didn't really help with its stability either!

Geeeez that thing looks like a monster! In keeping with the name, if I were invading your land and that came over the hill it'd have to be a swify retreat!

Bit of an update for anybody who's interested. Been having a lot of fun with it, it's been extremely reliable so far and I've done several 'Pay-and-play' days and it has been amazingly capable, but the A/T tyres let me down a couple of times. After selling the Golf I decided to splash out on some nice mud tyres, but you all know me, I can't do things by half:

That's 33" x 12.5" on 15" modular wheels. Also fitted a winch bumper and Champion 12,000lb winch:

I still haven't used them off road yet, but should be a great improvement. Besides, they look awesome ;)
Nice!
(have to ask though, isnt it illegal to operate on the road with that much tread beyond the widest part of the vehicle?)

Looks much more purposeful with the massive tyres and winch, love it!

I bought my dad one of those "drive a Defender around a field with holes a bit" for his Birthday a few years back, it was awesome fun, though hilarious when we had to drive it a short distance on the road. :)

It is not an MOT failure to have tread protruding, but it *can* be interpreted as being in contravention of construction and use regs by a jobsworth. I'll be getting extended arches anyway :)

That's looking absolutely awesome. The ultimate apocalypse-wagon :D

My friend is current rebuilding his 110 van and turning it into a station wagon with rear doors and seats. Looking forward to it getting back on the road for some offroading adventures that's for sure.

Tidy, ******* EU meddling iirc, for a change.
Next question, 5 seats plus 2*3 benches? is it then registered as 11 seats?

Mine is only registered as 9-seats as the benches in mine only have two seatbelts each, despite being physically big enough for three.

nice 110.surely your going to need a lift kit on it to cope with those tyres. whats your turning circle like now?

heres my 90 after a little fun.

running 265/75/16 cooper stt's on mods. flatdog suspension, koni adjustable dampers, rock sliders, winch bumper and rear 2" receiver for recovery/towing. lots of stuff left to do!

That's a nice 90 :)

The fronts rub on the lower corner of the plastic arch a bit at around half lock, but past that the tyres 'tuck' past the arch and I still get pretty much the same lock as before, turning circle isn't that much worse than before. But hey, it's a 110, it has the turning circle of the Exxon Valdese anyway lol ;)

The rear sits higher than the front on 110s and I have no clearance issues at all on the rear, I do have a pair of +2" springs in my garage that a mate gave me, I'll chuck those on the front and see how it sits, if it all sits nicely and stops the slight rubbing at the front I'll do it properly with a full kit.

where you gonna put your number plate eventually? i hate having mine on the grille, but there nowhere to stick it lol.

My 90 is one of the few motors I regret getting rid of.

Your 110 looks straight enough but for proper off road you'll have to get rid of the tow bar plate as it will dig in & get you stuck a lot, Same with the winch behind the bumper set up as it creates to much over hang & will catch. Does depend how mad you're going though, My mates 110 did pretty well at the pay & plays but got stuck loads when we green laned.
You will need a bit more room between the front wheels & the arches or the wheels will just rip the arches off at the door pillars, I've seen it happen.
Enjoy. :)

Lol, Iv'e only just fitted the winch and bumper, it's not going anywhere ;)

Besides, it doesn't overhang that much, and the extra height of the tyres means approach angle hasn't really been compromised a lot. Plus like I mentioned above I will be lifting it 2", that combined the extended flexi arches I'm going to fit will cure the slight rubbing I get at the front.

I've already done a few pay & plays and it has performed really well, beyond my expectations. The tow bar does dig in but it's a necessary evil as I tow a trailer when we go on holiday in the Landy. That said, it has never caused that many issues that I've thought 'this towbar needs to go NOW!!'. I don't go mad with it anyway, at pay & play days I keep away from the really stupid stuff (being stuck every five minutes isn't my idea of fun) and I tend to do my laning at places like Salisbury plain.

Replace it with a 2" receiver like mine. Best of both.

FYI, I paid about £130. It's an excellent bit of kt. I shove the bow shackle in there for offroading and can replace with a tow ball drop plate in about 30 seconds
