*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Starting with the last maintenance they have started over-estimating how long servers will be down. At last they have learnt that estimating a long time and then delivering quicker is more of a winner than estimating low and having to "extend".
The last maintenance for example was supposed to see servers back at 3:00pm, however they were running by 1:00pm.
I'd have thought the 12 hours should include the "extension" already.

it was always going to be a hefty update in terms of time, since its not just "in-game" stuff being updated but all the back end billing and store systems, and that stuff HAS to work from the off since it has financial implications for them and customers (i imagine they are more worried about them, no free cartel coins etc)

also annoys me they lock down the forum, so I have to visit the godawful twitter to find out that it looks like the already humourously long downtime, is going to be longer.

Now this is going F2P I'm thinking of picking it up. Do you think it's possible to ignore most of the multiplayer and play this like a single player KOTOR sequel?

Well theres no hide players option but hide chat and it'll be more KOTOR like

But yeah, you could hit 50 without playing with others

Games live again btw guy's. Gotto say though, there really is not a thing I want on the cartel market. Just bought two crime syndicate packs which gave me useless rubbish. Got about 330 coins left and really dont feel I want to spend them on anything.

Somewhat surprised that i need to buy quickbar slots, not only that but had 3 characters so deleted 2 which should have left me able to create 1 more but says i hvae exceeded my character slots, silly game.

Between the restrictions for free (and ex sub) players and the items actually in the cartel market i can't help but think they just had no idea what to actually sell in the store, especially after making the (probably stupid) decision to make the entire story side free.

The LoTRO method with the unlockable quest packs for each zone (planet) would probably have worked out much better for actually bringing in income without having to insanely restrict basic features.
They could easily have made the class stories and access to the planets free (like LoTRO does with the Epic quest line) but unless you bought the planetary quest packs you'd have to grind mobs to level.

They can't really make it too similar to LotRO, otherwise they would get into trouble which is why they did their own method. I'm pretty sure what you see in the store isn't the end result of items coming to it, as it's still early days, and i suspect that they added the basic items you see now just to have something in the Cartel Market for when F2P was launched.

Agree with this. First day of f2p. I'm sure we will see things changing all the time( we hope )

Installed and played a couple of hours of this yesterday, but being forced to buy quickbars is a bit ridiculous. I bought the game on launch, and paid for 2 months before quitting because it was so hard to find groups on my server, and now I have to buy quickbars? That's not selling convenience. Quickbars are *essential* to be able to play an RPG like this.

I just can't help but feel bitter about the whole thing. As someone who paid for the game on launch, I feel like quickbars, and to some extent races, should be something I'd get as standard. I understand limiting access to flashpoints and operations, though. That's fine. The game still has a subscription model.

They should have let everyone have access to all the quickbars and sold early access to sprint. That would be selling convenience, which would be fine in my eyes.

They really should have gave everyone the standard 4 quickbars and left the 2 new ones as a subscriber perk. More saddening when you realise they initially wanted free players to only get one bar.

Sadly the bars restrictions are only the most obvious ones, i've never heard of a F2P MMO restricting the ability to hide your helm or display any of the titles you've actually worked for.

Worst one has to be the purple gear use one, can you imagine the rage if someone bought a weekly ops pass for the raids then found they couldn't actually use the loot they'd earned until they coughed up for another unlock? Thats gonna go down like a lead balloon.
