Question for anyone with MMI 3G with SD card readers. Does your MMI/AMI play music through the SD card showing ID3 tags?

I've added a load of music to a 32GB SD card, and whilst everything plays fine, it is showing me file names rather than ID3 tags (of which I've double checked are present in the files). Everything I've read suggests that it shows ID3 tags, but I don't seem to be getting that result.

I know that, on the RNS-E in my old A3, it would show file names whilst browsing until you started playing a playlist or album, then it would scan the tracks in sequence and show the ID3 tags. Kind of makes sense I suppose to keep down on file access by not scanning all the files for ID3 tags until you select something.

Can't say I've tried SD cards on the MMI in the new one though, can do if you like though?

The SE Technik, comes with leather seats, and considering its a base model they actually quite nice and comfy, but a bit 'huggy' aswell. The SE-T is pretty well specced too, basic satnav,PDC,AMI and auto wipers and auto dimming mirror, which i think is pretty good for a near base model car.

Ok have checked it with an SD card and it has full tag support. Allows browsing of the card contents by artist, album, genre and so on, shows track names from the tags and even shows artwork too :)

I've noticed the MMI in my mates R8 shows/allows you to choose by artist/album etc the same way you would see it on a iPod, able to select genre playlists too etc, all this from an SD card.

However I just have a couple of folders that I created 'Car mix 2' etc and stick music files in there copied directly from iTunes folder. :o

I am either missing a setting or option or something. :(

Mine certainly won't browse by artist/album/genre, only by folder.

The system in mine is a little more recent than yours. I think the one I have is referred to as MMI 3G+

Interesting, the RNS-E in my 2006 A3 certainly didn't do this but I never tried it with the v2 in my 2010 one, perhaps they updated it. Might have to give it a try just out of curiosity (it's still knocking about for another week).

I'm not sure though because it is definitely a different system to the one in the TT. Think it is a Higher res screen (particularly the nav).

There are two versions of the RNS-E. The newer one came in around 2010 and included a higher-res screen, faster processing, SDHC support and obviously some tweaks to the way it uses ID3 tags etc, judging by the comments above.

Basically the RNS-E was only used in the A3, TT and R8 (and older models of A4 and A6) and is being phased out in favour of full MMI systems. The A3 has gone this way and, when the TT and R8 are replaced, so will they. The updated RNS-E was just a refresh to keep it a bit more current until the new models arrive.

One thing that will make you laugh, the R8 didn't even have Bluetooth as standard, had the mic etc for it and had to get Audi to put it in afterwards. :o :D

I thought this setting might enable this artist/album/genre thing but nope, seems to of made very little difference, only removing the track number (ie 01,02 etc at the start of the file name). :o

EDIT: If I had £38k in my bank I would get this right now!

Well I think I am going to have to go down the long road of fighting out a warranty claim.

My flywheel has failed and needed to get it replaced - £795.

The garage had the inspector come out today and has refused to pay out due to a slight bit of wear on a bearing. Garage is fighting my corner but if I do not get anywhere I will be going back to the garage who sold me the car & warranty only 5 months ago.

My arguement to them is you have a warranty for when things go wrong, you sold me this, something has gone wrong and now they won't sell out...miss selling much?

Now I am well aware of all the loopholes within the warranty but I do think I have a strong case with the car dealer, what do you guys think?
