*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

The lag was appalling last night, made the game unplayable on Miller. Rerolled on one of the other EU servers and it was fine so going to have to grit my teeth waiting for Miller to calm down as thats where ive spent all my cash. Got a couple of friend invites, shout when on, the in-game vox sucks monkey nuts by the way.

Yeah I gave up on Miller and moved to the new one beginning with M and it was so much nicer to play on, with no crashes and virtually no lag.

CPU bound more than GPU.

You're ageing CPU will bottleneck any card you buy unfortunately.

I've got 2 7970's and an i7 950 @ 4.2ghz - the CPU is very limiting atm :(. (Even with a 5850 or crossfire 5850's the CPU was bottlenecking it)

Has anyone found any TR outfits on Woodman? I'm struggling to find one for about 10 of us that play :(.

from what I read the performance is terrible for AMD users. We are talking about 50% less fps for equally powerful gpus.

Hmm....I've not read too much into performance on AMD gpus yet. I must say that I've not really been tracking FPS, but I've not noticed any slowdowns on my rig. I'm running a 7970 Lightning. Then again I shouldn't really be noticing any issues on a 7970 clocked at 1150/1500.

people with 2x7970s report terrible performance so you must be getting low fps as well.

7970's in crossfire = terrible performance

single 7970 (aka other one disabled) = perfectly smooth.

So whenever I play PlanetSide 2 I just disable crossfire :(.

Tried it out last night.

First impressions are not brilliant. Lag is horrible, differentiation between sides is poor making it difficult to even work out who to shoot and the "new player" experience is pretty much non-existent.

Will give it a few more goes obviously but so far, not so good.

Holy ****, the lag on Miller is crazy. People warping all over the place on all continents. The game is great, looks great etc but I think 2000 per continent was a little ambitious evident by the warping and poor fps on high spec machines.

It doesn't seem to be the 2k people that's the problem, it was absolutely fine in beta.

I think they've done something else to break it!

Is this game more gpu or cpu limited?

I have a pretty aging 775 system and was wondering if a graphics upgrade would give me a boost in fps.

It's CPU limited.

I'm playing with a Q6600 3.1GHz, 8GB RAM and 6970 2GB and am getting 15-25 at 1920x1080 on low settings in big fights. Anywhere else when it's semi-heavy fighting, it's 25-35, by myself with a few other players, then it's about 50-60.

Compare that to BF3/BFBC2 on Ultra settings at 5670x1080 I get double the FPS above.

You chose a REALLY bad night to try it out. The servers were getting hammered, especially if you played on Miller. The warping was outrageous and a lot of the nametags werent bothering to draw. I flew over a friendly base and had every friendly AA gun open up on me.

your best bet to get a proper taste of the game:

1. Create a character NOT on Miller, one of the HIGH servers.
2. Choose a class you like - I would suggest Light Assault, because they have jetpacks.
3. Jack your brightness up.
4. When you spawn in make sure you are in Indar or Amerish. open up your map. Hover on one of the deploy signs and see what the ratio is in the region. Ideally you want a 50/50 ratio of your guys and an attacker at a big base, like a bio dome. Hit deploy.
5. Use your backpacks and get on top of stuff. Your aim is to get to a flag point - A,B or C. If its green its yours, if its any other colour its turning or is an enemys.
6. Shoot anyone that does not have a nametag.
7. when you respawn choose a sunderer/spawn close to where you died. If the sunderer is next to a building away from the base look in there, there might be a transport gate inside.
8. Expect to die, a lot. Aim for the head. Start trying out the different classes.

Have fun.
