What a bargain. That was £100 less than mine cost and mine only had 6GB RAM, no bluray or mSATA SSD.

Mine had 2 of the rubber feet missing when it arrived and they have just sent me the whole bottom cover as a replacement part. They would have sent an engineer to swap it too but I said don't bother. Great service :)

I'm away at the moment and my internet is so ridiculously slow - didn't even see the R4 today :-(. If anyone manages to snag one but it's unwanted, please post here as I may well take it, especially if it's 1080P with the 7970.

Well done Adam.....are you going to cancel the one you snagged the other day then?

I think that I won't be able to get a brand new one into my budget even with discounts :( I'll try, but I doubt I'd be able to get a 7970m and a 1920x1080 screen for under £1200 :(

I guess I'll just have to try for a refurbished one, but I( only ever seem to be able to find the versions with 660m's :(

Ah well done. Mine is still pre-production. Been over 10 days now, so that first quote of 10 day wait was bull, rang them today. told me they are short on screen, GPU and base.

Dell, your stock control is questionable lol Oh well keep waiting. They reckon 28th November now.

enjoy your laptop, pleased its now on its way. but jealous as I want mine...

Mine sat in pre production for a month, then less than 2 days to build it. So I wonder if that time line is a load of rubbish. You'll get it soon mate!

Dont worry about a refurb being any less of a machine, mines literally brand new there wasnt a fingerprint/mark on it im hoping the same goes for the 7970.

There seem to be a few on here trying to snag machines just to simply offer onto the forum so theres always a good chance.

Problem is Adam, many models are like that but not all! I've had one refurb which was definitely used with a scratch on it and the scratch and dent R4 model I did manage to snag a month ago had to be returned i) for malfunctioning 7970 ii) far, far too many scratches all over the machine. Great for those who get them like new though. It's good we have quite a good spirit on here so any help to get me and others a new one in time for xmas would not go amiss :D

Yeah i thought that may have been the case with some. Whats the policy on sending them back? do you need a good reason? and do they charge you for doing it?.

If anyone manages to grab one that they don't actually want, and it has a 1920x1080 screen and a 7970m, it'd be really appreciated if you let me know, as I should have the money soon for one, and so far I haven't even been able to even see any r4's that I'd want :p

Dell were doing all they could for me to keep it and just have the engineer come out and fix the faulty GPU. Because it was within the 7-day return window and there was a defect it was sent back for nada. I had to press them for the return but I was very frustrated with Dell for sending out a machine that was severely cosmetically scratched and dented. IMO, they should have simply put it in a new case and sold it as a refurb - the one I had really shouldn't have been sold.

If there ins't anything wrong with it but you want to return it to Dell then it can be sent back for a £22 delivery charge and I think there's also a restocking fee though I'm not completely sure.

Ok im guessing this is an error somewhere. My laptop has been shipped, the UPS tracking thing says its in Germany and has been there for about a day now. But i just got an email from dell saying my laptop has been delayed and my new EDD is 21st of december...soooo? any clues?

EDIt: sorry it left Germany a day ago, hasnt been signed in anywhere else.

Tough to say but you wouldn't hear anything back over the weekend anyway i believe so it could be held in transit between Germany and its destination. It could be that they have emailed everyone who required a certain part and yours made it out of the factory before they ran out. Fingers crossed thatls the reason but Dell really need to sort out their stock problems.

Hi all,
I'm planning to buy a gaming laptop; though I'm not an extreme gamer..my budget is around 1400-1450 pounds. I'm torn between buying Alienware M17x r4(but ive heard that the laptop is pretty heavy) and few others like inspiron special edition which have decent gaming capacity.
I would also be carrying the laptop occassionally to my institute...Somebody please suggest...and also would I be able to get a new Alienware M17x r4 in this budget

hopefully it wrong.... Im now nearly 14 days wait for mine. It is starting to get on my nerves a little as i've got a ton of games that my existing mobile GPU won't play... i've now let my Samsung 700G go, as its been sold and i'm left with a 5660M gpu, and its slow... lol

Can't wait to get mine, hopefully yours turns up..

Well i can officially say it left Edinburgh this morning so it does look like its en route! But hey! if dell send me another one on the 21st, who am i to complain haha.

But remember mine took just over a month to change into production, but then it was ready to ship a day after that. Hopefully you wont need to wait long.

If you advise them that you want to return it within 7 days there doesn't have to be any fault with it, and they should not charge a restocking fee. I returned 2 outlet laptops recently after changing my mind. They said there would be a restocking fee however I quoted the DSR rules at them and they dropped the charge.
