ok this is a bit vague as doing this without looking at specs ........ bascially my gf oldish lappy coudl do with a speedboost ..

i know it runs windows vista .. is some sort of dual core setup @ roughly 2ghz and has 2 gb of ram . .... hard-drive is 250gb i think ( can give more detailed specs tmoz )

basically .will replacing the hard-drive with a ssd be worth it ? and wil it run faster ?

no gaming just social networking and music use ...

i am cinsidering getting her a trinity lappy if the ssd is a waste of time .. as she would like to do SOME sims 3 gaming ... and if i'll let her saints row 3 vai steam lol :P

It will load stuff quicker, but it won't run faster as such.

The 2gb of RAM will be the most lacking thing I think (assuming you have an OK gpu, and the CPU is at least dual-core).

the lappy is running its max ... i bought the extra ram for it ... and she likes vista for some reason ...sighs..

the gpu is pants .. it struggles with broken sword 3 lol ...

iwas condersiderign a 250gb ssd drive .. but not sure if im wastign cash and should just get her a full upgrade

If you put OS and program files on they will start quicker and boot up quicker but won't make it 'preform' quicker just open quicker

Adding more RAM is your cheapest best bet

What runs slow on it? SSD will probably only help if the hard drive is whats slowing down whatever you are trying to do on it.

Well I just stuck a Samsung 840 250gig in my ACER laptop (4810TZG, 1.3GHz & 4GB DDR3). It has improved it a bit; Windows boots a lot faster as do most apps in general. But, biggest mistake was not noticing the laptop is only SATA not SATA2 as I'd thought so it maxes out at 100MB/s transfer. So, in a sense it is a waste of a drive with 500MB/s potential!

ouch... sata 3 ssd on sata 1 :<

I put an 80GB intel 320 in my old Lenovo X61, 2Ghz dual core, with 4GB RAM.

It did it the world of good. Miles and miles faster all round than it was even with a Scorpio Black in it. Booted up quick, loaded heavy apps like Photoshop quick. I did use a modded bios that enabled SATA II though.

It was quick. **** screen / graphics but quick. On top of that the battery lasted 4/5 hours instead of 2/3. Ran cooler, much, much better. Was a really good upgrade.
