Cheap As Chips £45 Android Tablet?

I notice it is using the Tegra chipset that kinda puts me off it :E

Any idea how the Tegra compares to the OMAP in the HD?

Nothing really wrong with Tegra3 at all - at at this res of 1280*800 it runs just fine. It''ll start to struggle with 1200p tablets like the transformer Infinity. Plenty of guts for the Nexus 7, I don't think anyone has complained about Tegra 3 in the Nex7 thread.

Omap 4460 is what I have in my Galaxy Nexus and it runs 720p without a problem too - thanks to Jelly Bean, It was noticeably choppy in ICS.

Tegra 3 has twice the CPU and more than twice the GPU power of the Omap4460/30 :)

My sister has a Nexus 7 and it everything about it is great - and after a little play with the Kindle Fire I definitly couldn't recommend it. Comparing the Nexus 7 to the Fire is like comparing the SGS2 (on JB) to an old Desire running Gingerbread.

I just bought myself something I may come to regret - to good to be true?

I just ordered a (as spec) 7" 5-point capacitive Android tablet with a 1.2GHz single core CPU and 512MB RAM, with a resolution of 480 x 800 - which cost me, plus shipping (from China ofc) - £53.12.

Is this too good to be true? I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links or mention names as I'm pretty new here, and not 100% with all the rules - if it's OK, someone say and then I can add a link?

I ordered it thinking "What a bargain". I am now thinking I'm probably going to get some really shoddy piece of plastic with a resistive screen and a 600Mhz CPU with a 100 x 200 resolution and 128MB of RAM...

Has anyone bought a tablet this cheap and been impressed? Or am I in for dissapointment? (I'll post back when it comes - meant to be here for the 30th)

Pretty terrible purchase tbh, it's waste of money with that spec and resolution. Pays to do a bit of research before you hit the buy button...

Don't forget all these 'Nexus 7 vs Kindle Fire' comparisons are for the old 512MB version.

The newer one (40% faster, 1GB RAM etc) is apparently much better, no idea if it's running the latest Amazon software though. Can't find any reviews of it.

£99 was a steal tbh.

I tried the latest Fire HD model instore - was pants because it ran ICS and a horrible Amazon overlay :)

Back looked like this:. so I'm sure it was the new HD model.

Nexus 7 32GB price has been dropped to £179 in CPW.

Madness.

I currently use a NATPC X2 - cost me £70 off Amazon and whilst the specs are great on it (Dual Core CPU, 1 Gig RAM, 1024x600 screen) and it runs really well the battery is quite poor, so might just have to bite the bullet in the new year and buy a proper brand one.

That's amazing. I managed to get one for £159 on launch, one of the best Android tablets out there!

Nexus 7 is by far a better tablet. Running the latest AOSP (4.2.1 as of yesterday), Tegra 3 graphics + much faster CPU, better community support, 65% higher resolution, more storage (16/32GB as standard now), USB OTG, camera, build quality, screen (although the colour calibration is way off on Nexus 7), Bluetooth, NFC, GPS and a number of other things that make it an overall better tablet in pretty much every aspect.

Can't argue about the price of the new Fire though. It's still hugely limited by its 8GB storage (around 5.65GB usable IIRC), lack of microSD slot, locked bootloader (yup, the new Fire can't run any custom ROMs) and probably outdated Android software. Other than that, it's a cracking device for the price.

I bought one for £38 delivered :eek: for my daughter (3 yrs old) for christmas, probably from the same place by the sounds of it.

The specs were as follows:

Processor Type/CPU Type Cortex A8
CPU Manufacturer AllWinner
CPU Model A13
CPU Speed/Processor Clock Speed Clock at 1.0GHz
RAM/ Technology DDR III
RAM Memory 512MB
Hard Drive Type NAND Fast Flash
Hard Drive Capacity 4GB
Extend Card Supports an external TF card up to 32G (not included)
Keyboard Touch Screen
Touchpad Technology 5-point capacitive touch screen

Camera 0.3mega pixels front camera

Audio Built in a speaker
Battery Type 2000mAh battery
Battery/Run Time Music: Up to 5hours, Video: Up to 3hours

It took 2 weeks to arrive and I'm pretty chuffed with it for the price tbh. I wasn't expecting much but I aren't willing to pay a lot for something that'll get jammed up with haribo and chocolate and possibly dropped in the potty!

Its great for video playback and also the books and games she asks to play on my S3. It does take an age to boot up, the wifi reciever in it is pretty bad so its not great for streaming videos unless you are pretty much sat on the router and battery life isn't great but other than that its actually decent.

Edit:
Booting up
