Alienware m18x or m17x r4?

My Dell Studio I'm now using its feeling slow..!! lol that 5650M just don't cut it..:p

I used a Dell Studio with a 5650M for quite a few years in fact, it ran quite a few games at 1080, but the more recent stuff - well it scared it off I reckon.. Withcer 2, Metro 2033 and BF3 told me all I needed to know.. New laptop time..

the 700G samsung with a 6990M did well, it ran BF3 very well at 1080 but still struggled with Metro 2033... Hopefully, a 7970M tames Metro 2033 and Witcher 2..

Time will tell the tale on that one...

I know it is mate, but should clock well (I get 1150/2500 on my m14x r2 but damn it is so noisy I want to be rid of it, the m17x is always nice and quiet in comparison) and tide me over until I get either a 7970m m17x or an mxm m17x. I have been trying for ages to get an m17x with 7970m and getting no luck.

Reason I ended up buying a new one from Dell, I looked at the outlet but it seemed like the 7970M never came up. I just hassled Dell for a bigger discount, and purchased a new Alienware - although the wait for a new one to turn up, might as well took me chances with the outlet at this rate..

Decided to get the BIGGEST GPU i could afford this time around, I NEARLY, and nearly went for a M18x but the cost was silly and black eyes hurt, missus would have left me for sure if Id had got a M18x - she checks bank statements lol

Hahaha, I know the feeling. My misses doesn't check the account but Dell often send an invoice through the post and I bet she would open in "by accident"!

I also looked at the m18x, have always wanted one but they are just so heavy, you might as well get a shuttle and small LCD to lug to LANs/mates.
If one had ever come up cheap on the outlet I would have tried it.

The good thing about Dell is they never mind you returning it if you don't like it. I have returned loads and still haven't paid the admin charge

edit- also I see the mxm 7970m are at £300ish at the moment, will probably buy one when they drop to £250.
 
Just 1 R4 today i believe, it was a 3720, 675m, blu ray, killer wi-fi, 500gb, 8gb ram, 32gb SSD, 1080p, £1010 delivered. Pretty much the same as the first R4 i got.

My 7970 should be here soon and ive kinda got attached to my 675m though so im not sure what to do now, The advantages of the 675 are the killer wi-fi and the 3720 processor. The 7970 has the 3610 and bluray but just the standard wi-fi.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Adam I would have gone for the 3610 /7970 combo any day , the 7970 is miles ahead of the 675m ...basically a 675m is a rebadged 580m I think? Also the 3610 is a great processor :)

The 7970M is 2x more powerful... I dont see how you can get attached to something that you know is 2x slower. :confused: :p

Swap out the machine with the fastest CPU into the machine with the slower CPU and then send it back for refund. Job done. :D

so i'm really eyeing up the mx17 atm, but the thing that I'm not happy with is the heavy costs for upgrade, and they don't have the 680 onboard....

Just buy the basics and do the upgrades yourself. Everything is really easy to get to with the m17x.

Dell have always charged an arm and a leg for upgrades

Were you joking about this? surely Dell wouldnt refund a laptop that ive swapped parts on?

Also does anyone know how much at a percentage the 3720 is faster than the 3610?

Well my order was cancelled tonight.

Rang dell up to vent my discussed and was told it was cancelled because windows 7 is unavalibile, I said I was happy with 8 so now waiting too see what they can do.

Is this with a 680M you are trying to get, as if you try and buy a Windows 7 machine you only get the 660M, 675M and 7970M, to get the 680M you need to select Windows 8.

I actually think Dell are treating potential customers for their premier gaming laptops with total disrespect... It is truly shocking the wait times, I called them two days ago, told mine is delayed due to screen, GPU and back plate shortages... Tried to flog me a M18x..

I am really not happy with this... I'm not surprised you had a rant at them...

That really is just wrong, trying to sell you another laptop when your ringing up to enquire about the one you've already ordered.

It sounds like they are pretty much waiting on every part of your order, when i enquired about ordering a new one before i discovered the outlet they said their stock issues would be resolved by mid November, obviously a load of BS.
