*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

Does this console use the same motion bar as the original Wii? ie: If you have one already plumbed in and stuck to your TV, can you use that one? Or does it use a new format one?

You can use your existing one or replace with the new one (premium pack only). It's exactly the same as the old one and says in the quick start you can use your existing one.

Just realised the American's are paying the best part of £100 less for the same package over here (Shopto's price). Kind of puts me off buying it for a while.

Hang on... Lower models (not premium pack) don't come with the sensor?

Nothing new there! Quite often they pay in dollars what we pay in pounds! Ripoff!

Only in US, EU and JP basic models don't have a sensor bar.

Bit of a joke really. £40-50 I could maybe understand but £90 is a bit too much of a difference in all honesty.
$350 for a Premium (Deluxe) model, £262 if you include VAT compared to £300 here. We are getting a bit stung here but I'm pretty sure it's the retailers setting the console price, rather than Nintendo.

That sounds mental! So you walk into a shop and buy a WiiU, get it home... and can't play it because no sensor bar?

No, the GamePad has a built-in sensor bar. You'll only need the original Wii style sensor bar (that comes with all Premium packs) if you wanted to use peripherals from the Wii, like the Wii mote.

WiiU just arrived (sorry Neil!), I'm actually a little hesitant to turn it on as due to how cold it is up here today theres some condensation on the inside of the box. The GamePad screen for instance is slightly wet.

Edit: Totally forgot you get a Controller Pro with the ZombiU pack, nice surprise :p

LEAVE IT FOR A GOOD COUPLE OF HOURS! Not worth the risk surely?

Nah was okay, I just waited until the GamePad screen have completely dried as that was the worst, all working fine now. You know when you wash a window and you wipe it with a towel and it's not dry but not wet, was like that :)

30% through download on a 10mbit connection and started 21 minutes ago so about 220 kb/s which is a bit painful.

Sometimes our tumble drier and washing machine can trip our fuse box. If/when I go through this update, I will NOT have those on
