Retro console and games thread

Is kind of what I was thinking, just trying to picture if it will work.

Photoshop? Sure there are some people on here who can do a decent job to give you an idea (assuming you can't yourself).

Doing anything else to it while it's apart? 60Hz, widen cartridge for us games, anything like that or keeping it stock and just given it a coat of paint?

I had only thought about the paint job really (it was grotty yellow like most go) haven'treally looked about what else can be done .

Anything worth while?

Yeah no skills here to do photo shop but that would be helpful

60Hz mod, get your games playing at full speed & full screen, some pal games don't work properly in 60Hz, but most do. Region mod if you wanted to play imports. Either manual switch 50/60hz and lockout on/off, or Supercic to do it automatically. Some games don't work with lockout off, everything works with Supercic.

Of course cartridge slot needs widening for us games. I would definitely go for the 60hz mod at minimum. Even if you don't want imports, nice to play games at the speed they were intended.

I've had a look. I think I might damage something! I have a soldering iron but am not very good. Especially with chip legs.. Never attempted that.

:(. Not worth trying it, if you think you might end up damaging it, can't kill a good snes :). Definitely worth doing though if you decide you can at some point or find someone who can.

I forgot one more, you are changing led, so I assume you can solder bigger points? You may as well bridge some points on the controller ports pcb.

For some reason Nintendo decided to lock controllers, unbelievable :(. Doesn't seem to effect all controllers, but no harm doing it.

Them buggers.. Why make things so awkward.. I was looking to pick up a wireless third party controller

Yes I'm fine doing points that are not to close to other points. (in fact this has stoppedme doing more than jjust this project, i really need to learn to solder properly.)

I'll definitely do that one

I'm debating it.

Just heat the pads up with the soldering iron and pick at them with a pin. Place electrical tape underneath and then over the cable you solder to it. I'm not great at soldering; you just need a steady hand so you don't push up the pin too far and snap it off.

Also, know I mentioned it earlier but I'm selling my N64 with 14 games, 2 controllers and my s-video cable if anyone is interested. Selling rather than swapping as I doubt anyone has a MegaCD. Check out the MM if interested :)

Bought this yesterday. :D

Missed my SNES as I had to sell it a few years back. Never played Donkey Kong Country 3 either so that was nice. Game only cost me £5 too.

Now to find the money for SF2 Turbo and Zelda. Got a great retro gaming stall at my local market. It's going to bankrupt me :p

Howd you manage that?

Luck and the generosity of the stall holder I think :p As I was buying a few carts, he chucked in a discount so got a few quid off each game. :)

Was going to get a US copy of Zelda and a convertor for £20 but the convertor wouldn't work so I'll get that another time.

Managed to pickup a very good condition Master System yesterday from a shop I was working nearby.

Only got Sonic 2 so far so need to grab a few more titles.

What are people's thoughts on the Turbografx? I have no experience of this console at all and previously I have only gone for hardware I'd previously used. But the opportunity to purchase a brand new in box one has come up for a reasonable price. Are there any must have exclusives for this console?

That's nice :).

I really should do something with mine as it's looking a little rough. I would post, but apart from the widened cartridge slot, my mods are all internal and a bunch of wires isn't really interesting :(.

I did see a mod where someone had drilled the little coloured snes symbol and replaced with coloured LEDs, I might do that at some point.

Does anyone know if anyone makes a replacement top panel (just the grey part that pops off), with a wider slot and replacement flap, as that's the only part of the widened slot that is visible from the outside, so a new panel with a wider slot and proper flap would hide the internal cuts and make it look nicer.

Anyone else read up on making your own carts? Very tempted to buy some EEPROMS and a programmer when I have the money and make some Mega Drive games; namely the Sonic ROM kicking around that has spindash added to it. Also wouldn't mind making myself a copy of the MegaNet only game Sonic Eraser, which has been translated into English. Someone also managed to pull off a decent Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog hack that SEGA couldn't do.

EDIT: Oh, and I've been making some Game Genie codes for the Mega Games compilation carts you find everywhere as there surprisingly aren't any codes around for them!
