Far Cry 3 Thread

this should have been the island for dead island every time im in this game i cant hlp to think there should be zombies here i would love to lead a zombie in to the see for a shark
eat lol

Had the exact same thought... zombies on this island would be immense.

this game runs fine at highest settings on 7870 @1230 core. i had a blue screen after playing for 2 hours, but i think its because i tried to minimize this game

Ever seen the movie Zombie Flesh Eaters? Zombies cross to an Island (underwater) and one takes a bite out of a shark on the way :D. It was a late 70's/early 80's horror movie

I'm amazed at how mainstream zombies have become today. Back in the 80's due to bad press (and Mary Whitehouse) such movies were banned, it was like if you watched that movie you'd go out and be a killing machine. Thankfully the world has seen sense - some of the horror movies out these days are much worse than they ever were in the 70's and 80's and most people are fairly normal after watching such movies :)

Yes i remember those films when they were originally released.
Movies were better back then, Having a VHS or Betamax video recorder was a huge huge privilege and watching movies in your home, Well the whole street wanted to come and watch they were that good.

Movies are **** today i think apart from the odd one or two its all generic rubbish.

Finished the main story tonight, much shorter than i thought, about 11/12 hours and i thought i was taking my time! Either way i really enjoyed it gameplay and graphics were great

For me the story didnt stay as strong as it started out to be, but everything else in the game made up for that

Yeah, 7870 here too and I can max it at 1920x1080, was surprised as well with 8xMSAA. Very well optimized.

You're kidding?? At what frame rate? I run ultra settings on my 7950 and get solid 60 for more of the time, occasionally dipping down to 50, but as soon as I turn on MSAA, anything over 4x just kills it. At 8x I was getting like 20-25fps. Thats running dx11.

A tip for those getting micro stutter (easiest to spot when running in a straight line, it feels like it skips every so often. Very minute, but very annoying), I switched off vsync in CCC and in game, then in the the gameprofile.xml file, right after ShowFPS="0" type MaxFPS="60", assuming that's the framerate you want.

After doing that my game run smooth as a smooth thing. I will say though, I've tried this on two 60hz monitors and one of them I had to set it to 58fps to remove tearing. Very happy with how the game runs now though. Just make sure you change the file to Read Only (right click, properties) as the file will just remove any changes on start up.

Hope that helps.

Have a feeling that the game is optimized around AMD cards more so than Nvidia.

A few friends with AMD cards have no trouble maxing the game, whereas people I know with 680 SLI still struggle with framerates.

I played this on a 560ti, Unplayable in DX11, 1080 at very high settings. Sometimes an FPS of 60 other times as low as 15. Dropping to DX9 gave me a constant 50-60 fps and still looks as good.

Well, I persevered with the dull, annoying "collect this to make a bigger pocket to put your wallet in" phase, and after about three hours play time I had a character which was capable of wiping its own backside without dying, and carrying enough ammo to survive an attack by an armadillo.

That freed me up to do some exploring, and there are definitely times when this game can tap into the same satisfying mechanic that FC1 managed. However there are too many canned situations. Sneaking into a camp I took down one guy after his mate wandered off to have a pee, then I waited to see what would happen.

Turns out his mate had prostate problems and took the world's longest pee. In the end I took pity on him and put him out of his misery.

After a while in that mission though I got bored, hit a checkpoint, and forgot that you can't restart from checkpoints... you have to re-do the whole mission. So every time I nearly change my mind about this consoled version of FC1 I end up getting grumpy again.

Still, at least that helps remind me I have other things to do. :-)

Is this game better than the second?

Got bored of Far cry 2 after 30mins of getting shot with 100% accuracy through bushes. It's like the AI compromised of:

while(playerInView)
{
damagePlayer(hitDamage);
wait(5000);
}

I don't know if I can be that forgiving of such a stupid implementation on the last game, but the trailers look sooooooooooooo good

Imagine Assassin's Creed on an island and you're half way there. :-)

It's definitely better than FC2 because I've spent about five hours in it now, which is about three more than I ever managed in Malaria Quest. And I am now collecting relics rather than diamonds. Diamonds are a girl's best friend, so relics are clearly an improvement.

It is... fun in parts. Not full price fun IMO, but fun... if you can wade past the initial barriers to entry for PC gamers; like crafting items you ought to be able to make from readily available materials, annoyingly limited saves, and islands teeming with wildlife and guns... not a combination you find for long, generally.

You may also find it puzzling why people keep leaving money all over the place, and items in chests which are so nasty that they'd even get rejected by Bargain Hunt teams. I guess the money might have come from already selling the good stuff on Flog It.

Approach it like a five year old, let it hold your hand, do as you're told for a few hours and -- if you're good -- they'll let you play in the sandbox on your own later on. Just don't come running back to mummy when the nasty save monster steals your pocket money.

One really good user mod could sort this game out though. It has the most user friendly (if limited at this stage) editor I've ever messed with, so I'm hopeful that the under the hood stuff might be just as easy for talented people to play with.

I'd probably be happy with a simple quick save at this stage! Although some scenarios might be interesting to play in different ways, playing them from the very start in different ways requires more motivation than I have. Not when there are always other titles to explore.
