Are you talking about it being simply on the lock screen? or when the phone goes to idle? (i.e screen turned off)

If idle then...

It's a Windows Phone thing not a a problem...

There is an update next year which will add the option allow Wifi to remain active when the phone is in idle.

This option is actually available on the HTC 8S only at present.

ahh, thank you very much, i didnt know this. it is only happening when the phone goes idle.

normally it wouldn't be a problem, but my phone is still locked to ee (waiting for unlock code), so im using wifi to keep in touch with my gf on fb over wifi, and ofcourse, if it disconnects, i dont get the messages through.

I've always preached having a phone and a tablet with different OS, I find it a much better choice than having two phones or two very similar devices (iPhone+iPad or Nexus 4+Nexus 7 seem very silly to me). That being said, people work for their money so they can do whatever they want with it :)

I would agree with this. Have a Nexus 7 coming from the missus for xmas. Seems to me to be a bit redundant to have a Nexus 4 as well so hoping to get a 920 so I can get the best of both worlds!

If you keep the phone on charge then WiFi will remain connected

its just strange because all day yesterday, the phone didnt disconnect from wifi when it went idle, and it wasnt on charge.

i have no sim in my phone, it may have been lying there on idle for a bout 20 minutes and i was still getting notifications for a fb message through wifi.

may have been a small glitch with the phone thinking it was still on charge, because the the battery seemed super slow, it actually read full for about 3 hours and i was using it to message.

after i plugged it in to charge and took it off again, thats when the wifi started disconnecting on idle, and battery drain seemed more realistic :)

btw, the purple cherry gbc emulator is pretty good, does anybody know of a gba emulator out yet for windows phone?

You wont get the best of both worlds, im happily enjoying the fact I can connect my 920 to my Surface, upload and download files and even recharge the battery.

granted, but i think its nice to have a device on another os at least for the the other app stores and get to use the apps were missing here on windows.

I could sell my iPad and easily replace it with a Surface with little extra cost but there are way too many iOS apps that don't exist on android, let alone Windows 8. Sure you might find some things convenient with a 920 and a Surface but in the big scheme, having access to two app stores can only be beneficial. I thought about it for a bit and I really find zero interest for me to move from iOS to W8 on a tablet. And I say that as a Microsoft fanboy.

Depends on what you do with them, but having a working USB and proper explorer office and with all the major apps on their way, im not missing anything.
And I say this from having my time on the store of Apple and Google.

Well for me a tablet is a consuming device so I don't really care about a USB port or Office. If I want to be productive I get on a PC or (less likely) grab a laptop, so really the Surface has zero appeal to me at the moment. I can't either rely on big apps that are supposedly coming, I've used WP7 since the beginning and big apps have always been supposedly coming. I'd rather enjoy a tablet with a robust ecosystem that complements my 920 very well. Best of both worlds like someone else said.

What other tablet could support a WP any better than one you can manage all your content movies, picture, music than one you can actually plug to your phone? I sat and converted and transferred a season of South Park without having to go near the PC.
I owned a Nexus7 before the Surface and theirs no direct way you could interact with the Phone unless I sent and received files via Skydrive.
