Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum 3072MB GDDR5 **IN STOCK**

Does the problem effect all X58/79 mobos or just some of them.

A select few by the looks of it,
RIVE looks one of the main culprits though
more ppl are reporting issues now.

I'm one of the lucky ones affected :(

I can run crossfire no issue its just using eyefinity,
run out of things to try now.

I can also run eyefinity off one card without issue

edit- now developed same issues with one card :(

Just want to add this detail here to keep 7970 Matrix info together so others know what's going on.

GPU Tweak has the fan profile linked to the VRM (VDDC) temperatures as well as GPU... In the latest update they changed it so Fan1 is linked to GPU and Fan2 is linked to VRM (VDDC) temperature.

Hi Rossi, the MATRIX has two temp domains, both of which are read separately: one fan sits over the GPU and the other VDDC (voltage reg) area. In regards to User Defined fan profiles the temperature is measured in both domains separately and both fan speeds adjust independently, but you use one graph for both. This means as GPU hits 50C, fan1 spins up, and when VDDC fan hits 50C, fan2 spins up.

Both VDDC/GPU components have similar temperature tolerances so vastly differently graphs are not needed and it keeps the UI easier to understand).

Sorry this is not directly explained in the software.

Also for those interested in the Dual Link DVI and how it works on this card:

The DVI connector labelled 'VGA' is single link.
The other DVI connector that is outlined with a DP connector is either Dual Link with the outlined DP connection disabled or switching the 'BIOS' switch the other way will turn it Single Link with the DP connector enabled.

Nowhere does it say 2x DL DVI

Yes you could look at the connectors and assume they are, but that's the same with the MSI Lightning.

Also, here's a quote from a review:

For the card's connectivity, it allows up to four DisplayPort connections and two DVI connections all at the same time. However, there is a catch with this configuration, if a user uses up all four of the DisplayPorts, both of the DVI will only be able to operate in single-link mode or use 1x dual-link DVI and 1x single-link DVI with only three DisplayPorts enabled. The switching between these display configuration is done via the BIOS switch.

Any good, not had chance to try yet?

It's not been that long but it seems to have solved a few bugs in sleep and monitor standby that I've been having.
Apart from that I haven't seen any improvements yet. Will let you know if/when I find anything.

Thats handy the version I have been using is quite old, its a good reason to up date it.

You'll want to use the latest versions regardless so you get get rid of the bugs :p It's only recently that they've started tackling the issues for this card.

I don't know that much about these cards but what would be a safe voltage to use on them.

Thanks

On air i've gone up to 1.375v but boy does it get toasty, hits 80c very quickly. Only use that high when benching.

When going over 1.35v i give myself a rule that if it hits 80c i quit the application. With the cold weather and the windows open, you can probably use the full 1.4v.

1.35v for 24/7 would be fine, you'd just have to put up with the fan noise to keep it cool though.

Thanks for the above

When gaming I only ever run GPUs @stock

But then theres benchmarking....

Fortunately I am night person so hopefully by about 3am on monday I may have something running (with all the windows open - hope its snowing.):D

This card is awesome for benching.

Step 1: Open windows and turn off heating
Step 2: Press the 100% Turbo Fan button
Step 3: Press the Voltage + button until LED are red (max)
Step 4: Increase GPU clock
Step 5: Run 3D Mark 2011 and knock me out of top 10
..... :(

:D

Tiny Tom Logan !!! Oh dear!!! He cant clock anything!!! He banned me from there forum after he said a 3930K cant do 2400mhz mem and I showed the user with proof it can easy and then I showed him 2600 too!!!

No reasoning just banned me!!!

That guy is clueless!!!!!

Nice one 8 Pack :D

I want to join that site to get banned too.

Can anyone tell me if these cards come with clear plastic film protecting the plastic shroud on the card?

Mine seems to be covered in finger prints, not happy at all :(

Quick Q regarding this card compared to the MSI boost edition.

Would you say that the MSI is inferior due to 3072MB 6000MHz GDDR5, compared with Asus' 3072MB 6600MHz GDDR5 ? Does it have better quality memory ?

Or is it just a simple case of OC'ing the memory on the MSI ?

thanks

From what i have seen on here, most lightning's reach around 7600mhz on the memory with a little voltage applied. So yea just a matter of overclocking.

Tada

Not many options to be honest. The RIVE will allow a bigger gap i think.

I was looking at that on the RIVE and thinking 1 in slot 1 another in the black slot and a third in slot 4. If it worked things would be very cramped with the bottom card hanging off the mobo and a very big case would be needed.

Something a little different when ocing the card what settings are worth adjusting in GPU Tweak and which should I leave alone.

It may be possible yes. Mounting the PSU somewhere else for instance.

IMO just the usual settings

Power limit to max (obviously)
GPU Clock
GPU Voltage
Memory Clock
Memory Voltage (not done anything for me, but other report it makes a difference)
LLC (again, doesn't seem to do anything for me, i still get massive vdroop, but does for others)

The others don't seem to have any effect unless you're using extreme cooling maybe.

Currently bought one of theses cards was wondering is there a program that lets me see temps in games and clock speed. I currently was running afterburner but I cant get it to work with this card.
