Duchess of Cambridge's nurse has reportedly been found dead

Their actions contributed to someone killing themselves. How someone else in that situation would react is irrelevant. The punishment should be on par with people in cases where they harass or bully someone who then takes their own life.

They obviously did not expect this to be the outcome but regardless that is no excuse. They must now face the consequences.

Bull, so if you are a bit mean to someone and they go home and kill themselves then you should be charged with murder? Idiocy.

edit - Just seen your next post, LOL.

no.............they pranked someone. If i prank my friend and he tops himself is it my fault? no, you're just having a joke. They weren't bullying her or harrasing her, its just a prank ffs, get a grip.

Does any fault lay with the hospital for not giving the nurse enough support after their security procedures failed?

Seems a pretty dumb prank all round though, even without the tragic suicide. Pranking a pregnant lady that has past 12 weeks in this way can lead to all sorts of stress and complications...

Personally I don't think their actions come even close to harassment or bullying, it was simply a prank call and there was nothing malicious about it.

People play pranks on each other all the time, it happens quite a bit in my work place, it's not even in the same league as harassment or bullying. My sympathy is as much with the DJ's as it is with the family of the girl who killed herself.

Pranks on mates is one thing, pranks on strangers is another. Contrary to what television may tell you, pranking is for douche bags. You are not a douche bag, are you?

Why would someone be a douchebag if they enjoy a prank, who's that according to, you? You're not an ****hole with no sense of humour, are you?

It was a prank in which they tried to get a nurse to divulge confidential information. It had the potential to get the nurses into a great deal of trouble and neither of them gave their permission for it to be broadcasted. Do any of the pranks played at your work put anyone in a position where they may break the law?

I have no sympathy whatsoever for anyone associated with the prank.

Some people are saying, it was just a prank and the events which unfolded as a result could never have been envisaged, it was an extreme and unexpected outcome for sure, but should this kind of prank ever be carried out on hospital staff?

It seems very irresponsible on the part of the radio station to think it ok to waste the time of people who are doing important work, work which directly affects the health & well being of others, hospital workers are facing life & death situations every day, you would think the radio station would realize this and save their pranks for people whose work time isn't as critical.

I'm not intending to get on my high horse here, pranks can be entertaining & funny but intentionally wasting the time of people who are caring for the sick is just plain stupid IMO.

Having said all that, I'm not sure the DJ's are to blame, the call was pre-recorded and only aired at the approval of more senior members of staff at the station. Did the DJs even mastermind the hoax? Whoever approved the call for air time is more at fault IMO.

I have an excellent, well refined and cultured sense of humour thank you. I disagree with the deflection that not 'taking it on the chin' or being a 'spoil sport' some how makes me the ***hole. Pranking is the lowest form of douche bag comedy.

Other researchers have found that people with low self-esteem are more likely to feel schadenfreude than are people who have high self-esteem.[26]

You don't have low self esteem, do you?

As far as you saying pranking is the lowest form of douchebag comedy, why be malicious and call folks douchebags because they don't share your sense of humour? I can come back again and say, well then if you can't take it on the chin or act like a spoilt brat then you are being an ****hole but what we're doing here doesn't really serve much purpose, does it?

I'm glad to hear you've such a well refined and cultured sense of humour, the fact that you say that is amusing per se so I tend to believe you there. If I ever have the pleasure of meeting you I'm sure you can expect some sort of douchebag comedy then on my part, I'm sure you're reaction would be a good one.

No she didn't, all she did was answer the phone and transfer the call.

Therefore confirming that presence of said person on that ward.

You do realise that the Royal College of Nursing isn't the governing body, it's a union. The Nursing and Midwifery Counsel (NMC) are the governing body.

Yes, I do my mistake long night! And I agree with what you said there pretty much what I said. Lots of problems in the event not a single problem in isolation. You also mentioned something I alluded to earlier - this kind of thing is more likely from a nurse. A doctor would have just toughed up and found a way to blame someone else or chalked it up for what it was.

Blaming a suicide on a person based on a prank call is just ridiculous.

The women who took her own life was obviously suffering from something far more than this, as are most people who kill themselves. The phone call was just the trigger. If it hadn't been that, it would have probably been something else.

Agreed.

If it was so obvious that this prank call could have had such a devastating outcome, why weren't people rushing to support the nurse?

Point is you can't be scared you might kill someone because you play a joke on them, no matter how silly the joke is (even though this joke wasn't even played on the nurse).

If someone is that sensitive to life then they should be under psychiatric care
