Is a Corsair 650 watt enough for xfire 7970?

Are you sure that's a direct translation from your computer, maybe 1150 is really only 700. a lot of people say 1000watts is total overkill. I think 800 is the max.

That does depend on the efficiency of the PSU, it could easily be over 900w.

That was my power draw on 3D11 with 1.3v going through the cards.
750w from the wall is actually only about 600-650w from your PSU.

Meaning your current PSU is fine, but running a PSU at near maximum capacity isn't the best way...if you've got the spare money - upgrade to a decent 750-850w PSU. If not, shouldn't worry too much as the Corsair units are pretty decent.

Closer to 650 W - 700 W unless you have a **** PSU (I doubt that). :)
Taking into account ED11 only really uses 1-2 CPUs core when bencing the graphics.

When maxing out power useage I use OCCT power supply test which maxes out the CPU & GPU.

750 W is the safe minimum PSU I'd get, but 850 W would be recommended for some overhead.

a psu works best at 80% or under, any higher and its gonna be less efficient, plus a smaller psu will have to work harder/run hotter and probably go pop quicker than a larger psu

doesnt matter how large the psu is the components will only use what it needs

Alright sounds like amplifiers for audio, is that XFX a good choice compared to a Corsair? Why are Corsair ones so damn expensive?

They are extremely good. The AX series for example is a re branded seasonic which is regarded the best you can buy.

Better to have more than less.

I have a Corsair TX850 running and i5@4ghz, GTX 570, 3x1tb mechanical and 1 ssd

Personally I would go for a lot more than 650 watt on xfire 7970s. A few years back I had a low quality 450watt PSU and it popped and took out my 8800GT card, wasn't happy. Spend £20 or £30 more and go with a 1000 watt one

I was running 2 x GTX 670's with an old Antec 650w truepower trio and the rig in my sig, until recently. One of the 670's is borked (long story) but it has/ had nothing to do with power supply issues. I will say that when running something really GPU intensive (like Skyrim fully modded up and max ENB settings) and I was using SLI, the PSU fan did used to really crank up, and it worried me a bit as I felt like it must be straining quite hard. But, it does work fine

Seems to be 650watt average is good if you are not running sli, I notice a lot of those don't have dual sli connections too. Who knows how new games are gonna get stressed so I think 800+ is safe and 1000 watt would be sweet but very expensive. So question is a quality 850 watt or a cheaper 1000 watt?

XFX are also Seasonic PSU's :)

If this is the case would you rather have a 1000 watt Antec PSU or XFX 850watt?

If I ever get my other 670 issue sorted out and I go SLI again, if it does keep feeling like it's 'straining' I may get a new PSU. And I'd get me a decent modular 850w I think, though a good 750w would probably do.

What wattage would people reccommend for XFIRE OC'D 7850s and an OC'D CPU?

With a few fans, SSD and 2 HD's?

If it is one 6 pin connector, AMD recommends a 500W PSU (for one GPU) and if it is two 6 pin connectors, AMD recommend a 600W PSU. Going by this, I would feel a 650 is pushing it (especially with a tidy overclock). Somebody else with more knowledge would have to confirm though.

Thanks, I have an 850W PSU right now, but it's too loud, the fan seems to be at 100% at idle, I can hear it above everything. I'm gonna buy a new Corsair 760i or 860i (fan doesn't even come on until load), just trying to work out whether it's worth the extra £10-£15 more on 860W.

When I bought my 750W Antec TP a few years ago, I felt it would be plenty and it cost me just shy of £100. After seeing several upgrades, the PSU got switched from different hardware-cases and did the job. I never imagined I would end up with 3 screens and two GPU's and wished I had invested in a bigger PSU the first time (hindsight is great).

Moral of the story is, you can't regret having too much power and buy what your budget allows.

You're probably right, I got caught out last time buying a cheaper model.

If you bought the 860W it would aid in any future rigs/components you might buy. The chances are, with your rig...the fans wont even come on during load.

Fantastic PSUs (going by the 1200i) if you like quiet.
