nzbmatrix quits

I've never really subscribed to the "filesharing snobbery" accusations as i've witnessed a clear difference between usenet and torrenting, but it's a whole new level when people are calling index users "kids" and the like for not knowing the more technical routes.

People create competition out of the most bizarre things. Everyone wants to be the best at something i suppose.

Doesn't really work that way.

You aren't entitled to the content just because you pay a licence fee to view it. Once something is no longer broadcast or available via catch up services, your only option would be to either rent or purchase the video.

I think it would be nice if BBC allowed programming (which isn't something that gets resold on video) to remain on iPlayer. I can only imagine the reason things get removed is because of the sheer cost involved in having the data live. I would think in future the BBC will eventually have their catalogue available to all.
Some things are left on the iPlay way after the usual 2 or so weeks, for example you can still watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics, so I guess certain programs have less restrictions on them:

The NZBMatrix shut down made me take a look at shows I was getting online on Sky I was quite surprised that most of them are only 2-3 episodes behind the US airings. At least that situation has improved over the years. Still a shame tho.

The main thing for me is convenience, I like watching tv on one of my screens while browsing, working, playing a game on the other screen. Largely because half the tv around is average at best and I find it a waste of time to go plonk down infront of the tv, having adverts be a pain in the ass, even if I've recorded it and it doesn't take long to get through the adverts, I still have to leave a computer I'm already at, go downstairs(I have very bad knee's so even that is painful), turn on tv/sky, go through slow laggy menu's, get the show I want, fast forward through adverts. Sure its only an extra 10 minutes, but watch a few shows a day and that add's up.

If I could pay for US tv by subscription with a decent service, I actually would, I do pay for TV in the UK, i could watch everything, at inconvenient times, uncomfortably and with all the adverts, but I pay for it anyway, what does it matter to anyone else.

Well said :)

There's something inherently amusing about people raging out about losing their 7 quid lifetime membership which allowed them to access epic amount of pirated stuff :p Ehrmagerdz, you mean they took payment without providing a service, that's like, totally different from taking a service without providing a payment . :p

(as someone who 'lost' 7 quid lulz)

I still use torrents. Used NG's for a while but didn't see a point in paying to use the service when I can get the exact same stuff for 'free' on torrents. Just the odd TV program or movie, purely so I don't have to plonk myself down and suffer through ads aimed at brain damaged people.

Steam sorted out the gaming part whilst YouTube (and Adblocker) took care of music.

I personally wouldn't mind paying a small fee to download whatever I wanted - however, the problem with things like netflix etc... is there is no download feature. I don't have a particularly fast internet connection, and I also like to have high quality films - so other than ripping my DVDs with no compression (which I have done) to my HTPC, I can't really use online services.

Lovefilm is pretty good for that, as I resent having to pay an exorbitant fee for a movie that I didn't like. However, again, the problem is that it's not instant.

I think if there was a more legitmate way of getting movies to you most people would pay the fee. IF netflix etc... had a download service for SD & HD movies then I'd be happy with that. Or at least the ability to receive foreign movies/series, and American ones too. I don't think most people would have any issues with that.

I don't like torrents as they are riddled with script kiddies etc... and also generally hammered on bandwidth controlling.

Sure, nzbmatrix is down, there will be other services or ways in the future - until the laws/rules become simpler for this sort of thing it'll continue.

The thing is I still like going to the cinema - and I won't stop going just because of downloads - it's mainly tv series and so on that appeals to most people I think.
