Anyone care to help sway me towards one, and why? :)

Intel 180GB 330 Series SSD
Random Write 4K: 52000 IOPS
Random Read 4K: 42000 IOPS

Samsung 128GB 830 Series SSD

Random Write 4K: 30000 IOPS
Random Read 4K: 80000 IOPS

Both can be bought for similar price by shopping around, Intel 330's extra space is a plus point, but would i benefit with games or Windows boot times via Samsung's 4K Read been almost twice as fast?

Another vote for the Samsung. I've got that exact drive you've listed, and it's such an improvement over my old Crucial SSD.

well, the samsung is better for benchmarking, but in real world there isnt much in it, i just had a lan party at my house, i have the intel 180, and my mate has the samsung, and i consistently loaded the tracks for formula 1 2012 quicker than my m8, albeit by a second or so.

but saying that, in atto i get better speeds on the intel, using as ssd the samsung gets better speeds.

Cheers for replies :)

Any particular reason why I should stick to Crucial and Samsung only, failure rate issues with other brands?

theres nothing wrong with intel or any other ssd's imo, sandforce or marvell controlled, there were a lot of issues with ocz/sandforce drives but that was fixed ages ago with firmware revisions

currently running a sandforce controlled corsair force gt and its been fine, also owned the crucial m4 128gb

samsung do seem to be the best value though atm,esp the 256gb drives as they offer the best speed/size per £

I've got both drives. A Samsung 830 256GB and an Intel 330 180GB. Neither has given me any problem at all. I suppose I trust Samsung a bit more as it is not Sandforce, but Intel seem to have spun their magic with the 330 firmware.

In my opinion the extra capacity makes it a better buy if the prices are the same.

The Intel's are very reliable irrespective of firmware. I would go for the drive with the more space as performance will decline as the drive fills up.

Intel 330 gets my vote, intel's SSD's are very reliable, I picked up a 330 180GB a few weeks ago and its great.

I have a 300GB 320, which is the slightly earlier version of the 330.

It is a solid drive and made entirely by intel so it's reliable.

I also now have a Samsung 830 256GB.

I'd get the Intel if you want the space. Read Anandtechs article about free space and see the write performance drop when filled.

You won't notice a difference outside of benchmarks. (From someone who owns a 160GB X25-M, 300GB 320 and a 256GB 830).

So I say the 330.

Ordered Intel 330 for just £5.00 more than Samsung 830, via competitor ;)

Many thanks to all who replied, in the end the extra space plus opinions of those who own both drives swung my choice towards Intel. :)
