Call of Duty: Black Ops II

Just sopent a few rounds using only the ballistic knife, as you need about 250 kills before the rest of the camos unlock, but the melee is so hit or miss, missed a guy who according to my screen was standing with his back to me but in his kill cam he was off to the right and i zipped past him when i meleed :(

It's funny, did a 19-6 on carrier sniping, but with randoms. When I play with people I know I try too hard and don't play as well! Anyone else get that?

I generally do better playing on my own. It's probably because you will get put into a lobby that's best for your connection rather than what's best for you and your friends.

Still enjoying this for TDM. Given up with objective game modes as I generally get my &£@" pushed in. I've noticed that I get utterly pooped on if there are foreigners in the lobby, they seem to bullet sponge, insta-kill and generally seem to be infront of my game. I now play on a wireless connection to improve my lag comp advantage ;)

whats the easiest way to gimp your connection speeds while playing ? downloading some kind of "legal" torrent ? and setting a specific download/upload speed ?

Just do it properly and buy a really old router.

Seemed to work for me. None of the silly torrenting etc, just plug and go. :D

What is the model of this old router please?

I found a Belkin f5d7632-4 in my garage and used that.

As I have said previously the speeds are appaling (8mbps on speedtest.net normally 100Mbps through the superhub) but the game played brilliantly on Sunday night. I didn't once feel I was getting hammered by 'lag comp' and everything just worked, if I lost a gun fight it's because I was second best because of me and not my connection.

I have read that the Belkin only has capability for a max speed of 8Mbps for downstream.

I don't see how that would effect anything? In game I doubt there is any difference to having 8mb down to compared to 100mb down you won't be downloading anything like that much data?

Placebo affect maybe.

I can't believe people are buying crap modems just to try and get a decent connection on this game. Why not save your money and boycott it till you get dedicated servers. Just need the other 10 million people on the game to follow suit.

I don't know why it makes a difference, but based on my experience of sunday evening across various game modes it has (unless the connections as a whole have been secretly improved in the last patch).

Whether it is based on having a 'proper' router in place of the superhub I don't know.

I didn't buy it though. :p

Just found it whilst clearing out the garage so thought I would give it a try, it's only until I get Infinity installed anyway in January. Will be doing more tests of superhub/belkin though to see if it really does make a difference.

That's ok then :p I'm on infinity and it sucks being host. It's not the people lagging I'm bothered about. It's the lag comp. Get dedicated servers and they'll be no need for it.

Dedicated servers don't stop someone with a poor connection from lagging?

It minimizes the effect. A dedicated server has a known connection, and they rarely have spikes or drops in their connection.

Right now, CoD is using domestic internet conections to host their games, but domestic connections simply are not designed for this. They massively favour download to upload and lagspikes are common due to contention.

why do people hate dropshotting?

Because you can still aim while doing it. It makes no sense, at all. It is just one of a few broken mechanics in the games.

why do people hate dropshotting?

Mainly because it's a really stupid and cheap mechanic, a lot like quick scoping. I have learned to deal with people who drop shot but there's really very little that can be done against somebody who is pretty proficient at quick scoping, I feel bad for the players who rely on these mechanics though as it doesn't fly in other FPS games.
