The fan and the heater should be on together at the same time.
Opening the door on some ovens will kill the fan and heater too.
Did your oven switch off the fan when you opened the door? Could be a bad door contact.

Could be a dodgy control switch as well.
It could be but I doubt it. The door switch is an input on some ovens that kills the heater and fan too.

My bad. They are apparently called Fan Control Switches.
Anyway, it's the one you turn and it went twice on me. Whether it was related to something else I don't know but the problem hasn't re-occurred.
It's a Smeg oven.
I switched it on when the door was closed but it never came to life, opened it and tried turning on but still no life in it.
Someone mentioned the clock, clock been done in for ages but that hasn't effected anything so far.

Ignore all the other posts, turn everything on and wiggle something metal, like a knife around the internal circuits until it bridges the broken connection.
The oven will leap back into life and you can make the fix permanent by sellotaping the knife in position!

What's your experience with Smeg appliances then?
Obviously out of warranty?
Depending on the make and model there may be a TOC stat on the back of the oven.
It is most likely to be that or the switch.
You sound like a wisend old man - TOC? Switch - what switch?
By TOC do you mean Thermocouple?
