That time of Year: Xmas bonus and pay rises

I am expecting a very small payrise and next to sod all bonus

the above will be an improvement on most years

Been at the same place six years and had one pay rise about four years ago.
Bonus I do get and usually amounts to less than a weeks wage.
Sick of it to be honest but I haven't found anything suitable to move to so meh.
Thread depresses me. :(

Our company is dishing out wapping great big bonuses to senior management for increasing margins via not giving out bonuses and pay rises to all other staff!

Great strategy that...

I only started this job in October so I miss this round of performance reviews, I do know that I'm not eligible for a bonus for my first couple of years but I will get a gradual increase in pay until I qualify (accountant) which is when things pick up speed hopefully.

Not everybody has that option, and employers aren't freely employing as they used to - it's hard to find a new job at the moment.

I appreciate not everyone is in the same situation and I do feel sorry for people that work in industries that are in decline.

I work in software and we are crying out for good developers, the project I am working on has a good chance of folding simply because we cannot find any good developers to fulfill roles.

In most industries the jobs are out there, you just have to be flexible and move, even to other countries. Many people don't like to do that I understand.

In the 21st century you have to flexible and assume that their is a global work force you are competing with and must be a part of. My wife lives on the other-side of the US, these days that is not at all uncommon. We have colleague with children that live thousands of miles apart. If you have a specialized career then you must be flexible on location, if you have a flexible career then you can be more fussy on locations.

If I was given a pay cut I would get out of the company ASAP. No business should do that to their employees.

You're obviously living in your own little fantasy world. Just in case you hadn't noticed we're in the middle of the worst economic crisis since world war 2! Jobs are scarce and peoples wages aren't going anywhere near as far as they were a few years ago. The fact of the matter is most people have families to feed, bills to pay and whilst a pay cut is far from ideal at least they've still got an income. If only finding a job was as easy as you appear to think it is. Someone needs to get a sense of reality ;)

Again whilst I agree to a point it all comes down to what an individual values, for some it may be worthwhile taking a small pay cut or effective pay cut due to below inflation rise to keep their family in the same location or be close to poorly relatives etc. Whilst at this stage of my career what I'm interested in is always being challeneged and being rewarded for facing up to that challenge there will come a point where I have different priorities.

Some people also have quite a strong (naively imo) affiliation to their employer having been there for a number of years etc

Our company KPI bonus is 3.7% this year, need to wait until January to find out if I get a merit bonus and a pay rise.....although I'm hoping I will considering my appraisal and the fact that the industry I work in lacks engineers, there's lots of jobs going and even a company as large as mine struggles to hold onto staff.

We'll see I guess!

But I expect they want a large attrition rate, if a chunk of their work force voluntarily quits then they save a wad of cash

I had my guaranteed hours reduced from 40 hours to 24 hours 4 years ago.
We also had our staff cut back from 15 to 6, we've only now (well about a year+) started to grow as a business. Our wages and hours are still not back up, but hoping by mid next year to finally get our hours back.

I'm not interested in a pay rise or bonus, one of the only reasons I've stuck with this company is because i love the work. It's also a company I've worked for since leaving school, i have too much loyalty to the company to up and leave at the sight of a pay cut.

I'm not saying if it were to happen i wouldn't care, i'm saying i'd be happy to take a hit to stay with job i love.

Sad but true.

Lol payrise. Public sector and on grad scheme. So no bonus and no payrise. I do get promoted November next year however which should see a 5k payrise. Kind of grateful just to have a relatively secure job and prospects for the next couple years.

Had just under a 3.5k rise and have yet to hear about bonus but I reckon 1.5-2k net. Timing of the bonus is annoying as it's at the end of January, would much prefer it in this months pay check!

and here we go again, "look at me, look at me, im doing well"

grats on the pay rise but seriously take it elsewhere. some of us haven't even had a job for over a year.

Surely if you feel that way than why even read the thread? It's fairly obvious what's goingto be discussed.
