What are you on about. At no point did I say they didn't have a way to distribute it. I said they have no apps to distribute, they will not have any marketshare for most producers to make apps for their specific OS, they would need to use androids App Store.
I wouldn't expect this to do anything other than play games. Maybe DVDs if lucky.
I guess you would be able to browse the web with the steam browser as well.
Lol no market share?
I'm pretty convinced that Steam has the user numbers and fame for companies like Facebook or Netflix to want to be a part of their home PC ecosystem...
No, I'm saying they are different to conventional software. Which they very much are.You are trying to tell people that "apps" are different to software, they aren't.
Have you even read any posted I've told you what MS with windows is going through?
Yet you think developers are going to develop for one platform which is going to be absolutely tiny.
Are they going to sell 40million consoles in three days? And yet that's still not enough clout for lots of developers yet.
They going to bank roll a few big apps?
They going to to run workshops?
If steam go down their own App Store. It will end up like osx App Store, ie useless.
No, I'm saying they are different to conventional software. Which they very much are.
That should be obviuse. Everyone k owe mobile apps are vastly different to pc software. From controls to style and everything inbetween.
OSX App store is useless because a browser already provides the best experience for using things like Facebook or Netflix in a desktop environment... we are talking about a Valve Linux distro with integrated Steam this is a very different beast to OSX.
If companies like Facebook and Netflix already make 'Apps' for tiny ecosystems like LG TV's or Sony TV's then sure as hell I believe they will make software to more easily use their products on a Valve home entertainment system...
As far as I'm aware, samsung use the google tv software or a modified version of it, so essentially android.
And yet windows store has double the amount of osx apps in a bare month and a bit.
When the first revision of the 360 came out, I'm fairly sure it had no way too hook into Facebook/Myspace other than a web browser?

I think most people are missing the point. It's a games console, not an app console.
Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all had consoles out in the past that only ran games.
If Valve feel the need to integrate other applications, I'm sure they will.
edit: There's even api's available for major services anyway. Getting Facebook on your Steam-box won't be difficult![]()
Sounds like Glaucus is scared this might work.
I say i can't wait!
Good luck Valve!
No, they do not need the same level of apps, but they do need apps. Something Xbox and ps3 both have.He is trying to argue that a home console needs the same rich App ecosystem as IOS or Android when the PS3 and 360 are living proof they dont.
Steam hardware will be competing in the console space not the tablet or smartphone space, essentially his argument is flawed.
