Alienware m18x or m17x r4?

ahhh thanks, I feel a bit better now! For some reason I want the razer blade even though I know it is under powered and over priced!

well Dell have informed me no stock of some of the parts so won't be fixing my laptop any time soon, and google search brings up a few users having the very same issues with m17x having power issues after a few hours or days of use..

not the best start and not happy with any of this tbh.. already wrote an email to Dell customer relations about the whole experience so far... see where that leads . maybe nowhere

Mines stil waiting at pre production due to the part shortages.

that is disgraceful.. you've been waiting ages for yours to be sent. the whole experience is really not on with any of this. see if my email goes anywhere first, take it from there. don't think I'll ever order alienware again. disgraceful stock control and awful support even at pre sales...

On a lighter note, my m17x arrived today with not even a scratch on it :D it is awesome :) I put my 120gb force 3 and my 60gb vertex drives in, and it is very quick :D I have an external 1tb drive now, and I thought I'd need to re download every steam game, but no, steam just let me import them :D means I don't need to download arma again with over 30 mods totaling 30gb :p speaking of arma, I get 35 fps on taviana in dayz with very high on all textures at full 1080p just not with nuts aa :p the screen on it is amazing, it has better colour reproduction and higher clarity than my lg w2363d! The sound card is awesome too, it may just be the eq, but my pc350s have never sounded better :D Just need to figure out the WiFi drivers and how to get the onboard speakers working :p

The only problem that I can see with my laptop is that when the grill leds are set to orange, the right one is more yellow, but that's not that big of a deal :p

Overall it is DEFINITELY worth what I paid, I still can't believe what I got for the money :D

Now, what should I spend the rest of my money on? A replacement for the vertex? A bluray drive? (i watch a lot of movies) maybe just a new mamba 2012 or cm storm quickfire tk/Razer blackwidow 2012?

Yep I ordered it on the 5th November thinking its far enough not to be affected by Christmas. Cancelled it towards the end of November due to Compatibilty issues with Windows 7 and the 680m . Reordered and now there not even sure if it will meet its new date on 8th Jan.

Knowing my luck it'll be posted to work during the Christmas shut down.

These laptops are a steal, ok its a pain to get one but if you try hard enough you will eventually land one. The spec / price ratio is unbeatable

so my m18x estimated delivery date is tomorrow (14/12/2012), but just contact Dell, and was told my estimated delivery date is now 27/12/2012, with no explanation for the delay ... :(

You can threaten Dell that you're going to send it back and you want your money back. In many cases, Dell will offer you a 10% discount on the price you paid (irrespective of how cheap you got it). For them, it's either 10% less dosh or having to put it on the outlet where they'll make even less. It's a real shame for you though. It would seem Dell's quality control has gone south!

from what I can gather with my own experience of buying an alienware , the whole process of buying, owning and servicing one is one of waiting, frustration and lies...

I still can't believe I waited so long for mine, even sold my existing Samsung laptop to fund it, for it to die after four hours usage and now for Dell to keep fobbing ne off as I get told one story after another as to why they can't repair it quickly.

next day business support, Pah. jokers. horrible horrible mess of a business and cannot in ny way recommend anyone does business with alienware ... the waits, the lies and utter frustration is too much, I'm now looking at a,full refund on mine, waiting for Dell alienware management to call me back. oh lol more waiting, that's about all Dell alienware can do for you. make you wait. pathetic stock control imo.

Iv-tecman thats a nightmare, so frustrating to spend that kinda cash and be rewarded with all those issues.

Have you thought about what you'll replace the M17x with?

See for me I would go to OCuk or another Clevo Chassis but the price was more competitive with Alienware and the whole look of the machine appealed to me.

Put it this way my deadline is February for when epic.TEN starts. Ive decided if it misses its deadline again I will cancel and purchase something else.

What I dont know

Man that sounds terrible, mine hasn't skipped a beat since I got it. No idea about these compatibility issues with win 7 and 680m. My ones been so smooth. But true, if I had been burnt like you have, I wouldn't be touching Alienware ever again. Hope you get your money back asap.

The screen on my Brothers R4 has stopped working. He has dropped it around and I will contact Dell to have it sorted.

The last guy that came was superb and said he would replace everything if needs be. Maybe engineers in different areas have better supplies of parts.

Going to call Dell now and see what can be done. This is the second time it has been dead so also loosing faith in the quality of these laptops.

Nothing today. Again. Also, the pricing of almost all the laptops they've added today are crazily high. Some may even cost more than if buying new. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come or if they're hoping to get fools to buy them for Xmas thinking they got a good deal.

I don't know what is going on with the outlet lately!
crazy prices happen quite often and there is a serious lack of alienware machines. you used to get 10+ AW systems per week so actually had a chance of snagging one

Fully agree. I put myself in the predicament I'm in now as, although I was checking in July/August when loads were going on, I had to wait until October and onwards due to funds. Sod's law that since October there have been very few

I'm on my phone so I'll update more later, but Dell are now doing all they can for me to keep the machine and offered to repair it my mid week next week.

if not I can still get a refund and been offered addtional three years warranty foc. Dell did actually call me back, they were or this manager was very apologetic and offered me the peace of mind of it they can't fix it they will refund or swap it.

the additional warranty offer was good I guess, valid if I keep the service call open. they have assigned a call agent and my repair is top priority or so they say.

they have one more chance to redeem themselves as so far my opinion of alienware is very low.
