I go to one of the three work gyms - I am very lucky in this regard. I have half of my lunch at my desk about an hour before and the second half right after my workout. If I did not have a gym to go to for an hour at lunch I think I might actually go mad with boredom!
I usually pop to the local bakery in the industrial estate for a sandwich or something, which I then eat at my desk whilst I listen to music or brows the net.
Pretty good where I am. We get food delivered to our desks which we eat before our lunch break. Then either a walk into town. Or on a Friday I normally go Cycling which results in a 2 hour break including getting ready and then showering after. Or even football which results in an even longer break!
What is thus lunch break you speak of? You mean the 5 minute dash to tescos, bring food back with the intention of browsing and get lumbered with more work?
We actually have been told we have to have our "lunch" break halfway through our shift, so on an early start thats 10:30. Our onsite restaurant isn't open at that time of day, and as we only get half an hour, there isn't really time to do much apart from make a brew, then back to work!
If I'm at HQ then I usually go for a pub lunch. We're pretty lucky as we have a damn good, and I hate this term, 'gastro pub' just down the road. If out in the field, on location, then it's whatever is on offer. That could be anything from a decent restaurant to a burger/hotdog from a van in a lay-by.
Used to sit and eat with the lads at work till I took my book one day. So now I just drive somewhere nice, eat and read for the hour (previously with a small cigar too).
Pretty lucky that our work not only gives us an hour but pays us for the hour break too. So technically we "work" a seven hour day, I've never heard of an employer doing that before.
