BMW M6 GRAN COUPE

I'd sooner spend that kind of money on a Merc

It really annoys me how the general public seem to think that Mercedes is the epitome of luxury. It's like how everyone thinks Bose is the ultimate sound system when in reality it's not, it's vastly inferior let alone average to the competition, they just have a staggeringly good marketing team.

Mercedes is in the same league as BMW. In fact a lot of their previous generation cars were crap. If there wasn't an abundance of company car people driving around in 520 and 320 diesels then the perception of BMW as a luxurious car would be altered considerably.

I know hun, I know.

I just feel that as a brand, Mercedes is just a tad more premium. They can get away with selling 85k plus saloons, coupes and GTs with ease.

BMW clearly cant.

I know and that's my point, they can get away with it.

Tell someone you drive a Mercedes and they react as if it's a Ferrari.
Tell someone you drive a BMW and they react as if it's a Ford Focus.

It doesn't mean that in reality they are better cars though!

That would depend which Mercedes and BMW you drive.

BMW have more cars on the road, which is no doubt part of the problem, just look at whats happend to Porsche since the Boxster, the brand is now less premium.

Yeah but to the average person on the street who knows nothing about cars... They don't know the difference between an M3 and a 320i, for example.

That's definitely part of the problem. 911s are tremendous cars but a lot of people with that sort of money are looking elsewhere now to get something more 'special'

What are the difference in sales numbers for the 85k plus ranges between BMW and Merc?

That statement was based on the upon the overall responses within this thread.

I doubt such a topic would be made for a 100k+ Merc coupe.

Anyone have anything to say about the SL63AMG?
