ive been 6 times and yes, there is more to the city that drugs and red light, but no matter where you go you'll find sober its a pretty shocking dive full of nasty weird people? we took a tram out to leidseplein and had a good walk about there and seen a tramp eating out of one of those big industrial bins in a park...
fyi the legalisation(if you can call it that as its been a grey area even since the first coffee shop) hasnt come into effect yet so its still okay and open for tourists, they are in an ongoing vote which i think is almost 50/50 and have already put restrictions into effect in different parts of the country which have had a knock on effect of jobs and industries taking huge hits because of, which only goes for the coffee shops arguments...
keep away from the grasshopper its a severe tourist trap, keep out of back alleys on a night and try to avoid walking around alone as it can be a scarey place if your not used to people whispering things in your ear all the time and bag heads walking around rattling tins ect, but it is an unreal place thats just out of this world. was better years ago but its got worse last few times ive been, although i havnt been back for a good few years now

work cant sack your for marijuana if you can prove you did it legally ?
It's not legal in Holland. The no drugs policy won't specify a circumstance when you can. Just something to be wary of. It takes weeks to get out.
well yeah they can, they test you because its forbidden to take it whilst employed in their service. just as they can test you for alcohol when thats totally legal.. if its in your system whilst working then they can terminate your contract regardless if you were out of the country in some other place where it was legal.
Excellent, I'll be ferrying over on a Weds, a couple of days lurking around Amsterdam then Saturday night Epic Trance night followed by a Sunday of recovery and home on t'Monday!

Will be going in April as A State of Trance 600 will be on ... so I'm interested in this also as the missus will be coming.
She keeps saying it's just full of prostitutes so at least now I can give her the bigger picture
