Do people still put their phones on the tables in pubs?

Can't stand people doing this because they spend lots time looking for notification of some very important arrival instead of enjoying the company/conversation.

Surely the only reason people ever did this was because sitting down with phones and cigarettes in your pockets was annoying. I imagine people do it even more now with slimmer jeans being a la mode.

This...

Certainly don't think it's rude.

That's because iPhone users are far more classy and don't drink in "pubs".

I'm an iPhone user and drink in some of the grottiest Loyalist pubs in the country I'll have you know. I wouldn't be caught dead in a wine bar / cocktail lounge or gastro pub. I like my floors sticky, the clientele with the minimal amount of teeth and a one eyed dog curled up on the tatty benches of a corner nook being fed pork scratchings by a woman akin to one of the fat ****s from the Viz.

I don't get it. Why do people do this?
I keep all my valuable on me. I don't want to advertise a £500 phone to the pub and my wallet also.

On the table be ause it's uncomfortable, I tend not to bother with my phone when with mates and I admit it irritates me a little when people do.

Ive always empty my pockets onto the table in a pub otherwise A. Things get broken in your pockets and B. Its v.uncomfortable.

Absolutely. You go out with people and then spend half the time looking for notifications from other people. If you then went out with those people you'd spend half the time looking at notifications from other people.

I know lots of people who do this. I usually just leave mine in my coat pocket. If someone's arrival is imminent I'll leave it out and then once arrived it goes back in my coat pocket.

Not really. For the most part people are too scared they'll either forget it, or have it swiped by a *****. Phones have gone up in prices since the early 2000's though. Back then a new phone was max £100-150. Nowadays that'll get you a cheapo android phone.

There were quite a few phones back then that cost far more than £150. The Nokia 8000 series of phones were regularly over £350-400.

Precisely. My phone is always in my coat pocket if I'm out with someone. And even then it spends most of its time on silent.

I hate it when I go out with people, choose to leave my mobile at home and then get told by others "but why did you leave it behind, that's why it's called a mobile". Yes, I bloody know, and I chose to leave it behind.

Same - my phone mostly stays in an inside jacket/coat pocket unless I'm in a place where they collect coats on the door. Showing off a £500 phone around here has a high chance of ending only one way anyhow.

TBH don't entirely get this - tho each to their own - when I'm out is the time I use my mobile as a phone the most... that said if I'm out drinking I'm more likely to take an older phone with me aka the "stunt" phone as a colleague calls it as alcohol and expensive phones don't always mix well.
