Retro console and games thread

I've given up trying to find a new boxed PAL Dreamcast, one just went for £920 on eBay however there are quite a few new sealed NSTC consoles that are looking to be around £180 delivered which I'm prepared to pay. What would I need so my PAL games work with it? Will PAL-50 games work ok with a boot disc?

EDIT: the PAL Dreamcast is up to £4,100 now.

I know some people prefer boxed ones but I don't really see the point if you're going to be using it. If you're willing to pay that much, I'd suggest you picking up one of the awesome black NTSC ones.

Oh and yeah, with any machine using the Utopia(?) bootdisc you can play any region.

Well, I've gone a bit mad! Missed out on a 32x which sold for £51 and it was missing half of its cables. Found a US seller selling a Genesis 32x with the option to make an offer. Offered $25 and they counter-offered $30 which was pretty awesome. £35 total including delivery. Just need the flyback cable which I don't mind buying separately as I'm going to get a better RGB one that a small eBay shop does for Model 1 MegaDrives.

If anyone else is interested in a 32x, get a US one. They sold much better over there so they're a lot cheaper, and it's identical hardware. All you'll need to do is remove a resistor on the board to switch it back to a 50Hz unit. Actual country region coding is still handled by the Mega Drive. I'm going to add a switch to mine so I can play PAL and NTSC 32x games.

Also due to receive my Mega CD too :D Don't suppose anyone has any idea where I can get a multi BIOS from? Or anyone that could flash an EEPROM for me? :p

Got a bargain from ebay a couple of weeks ago. I got the following Mega Drive games for about £13 inc postage:

Chuck Rock
James Pond (already got a copy so will probably sell it on)
Grandslam
Mega Games 1 and 3 (again, already got these along with everyone else!)

and, the reason I bid in the first place....

Super Fantasy Zone
Thunder Force IV

Pretty pleased with these, considering they fetch around £5-10 each :)

The Mega Games are great value for money considering they're pretty decent games. Vol 2 is especially good as it has Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and The Revenge of Shinobi. If you have a Game Genie (well worth getting if you have a MD) I've modified most of the good codes I've found online for the various games included in the Mega Games compilations to work with them.

£7. Have the box and manual as well in decent condition, but couldn't be bothered to squeeze into picture.

Well Ive booked my travelling trip for May 2013. First I be spending 5 days in Japan before I move onto another country. Now I can plan my 'Retro Raid' :) Get hold of some retro games which never saw the light of day outside Japan without paying silly prices for them.

Turbografx arrived today. Looks in good condition, will try it out in the morning, make sure it's working fine. Also picked up an Intellivision a SNES and got an Atari 2400 on its way. Will get some pictures up soon.

:D last retro game I purchased too (when that £5 off ebay voucher was floating about)

Shame it looks turd in pal though :( first n64 game that makes me actually want an nstc 64 (though I do have 2 nstc games that looked pretty average on the convertor thing and probably deserve one too...)

I have a copy of the pal one as well (Replacing pal collection with ntsc). That release was a disgrace, borders on all four sides , can't believe they thought that was acceptable and released it like that.

Yeah I couldn't believe how bad it was to get close to a decent frame rate (didn't remember it to look like that as a kid). Still a fun game to play.

Would love to replace my pal collection with nstc, doubt I'd ever get some of the classics in the boxed condition I have currently though (Zelda MM, Donky Kong 64 and Smash Bros among others have perfect boxes and Conkers BFD with a box at all goes for sill money).

Planning to get a copy of indiana jones and the infernal time machine on the 64 soon, sadly that will be cartridge only (boxed is over £100 which is too far) and it'll have to be nstc, only ever seen one pal version from Australia years ago :( (wish I had spent the £60 on it then, and I think it was Australian though it was before I went to uni when I saw it on ebay)

We were probably in some of the same shops yesterday then !

I also seen the hulk for gamecube in a charity shop in newcastle, agreed the prices were high for most games, I was disappointed.

I've give up looking in charity shops around newcastle never found nothing good always picked dry. Maybe the guy who owns that retro shop in grainger gets to them first:(
