swift 1.6 sport vs mx5 mk2 1.6

I prefer 4

Only 4? :p

As others have said, the mk 1.8 would be the better choice! And you must be able to lower that insurance, surely? It would have cost less for me to insure a 3.0 NA Supra at 18 than that...

Yea it's not a importance but I like the look of twins that's my own personal pro to the car I know I can get a mx5 with twins but would have to pay extra as for most of em don't come standard I also like the 17" alloys that come standard on the swift too

You don't sound like an MX-5 owner, you sound like the look is more important than the drive. Now there is nothing wrong with that, but I suggest you buy the Suzuki, they are a good little car but the MX-5 will provide broader smiles on the right road on the right day.

Currently what is making me more stray to the swift is that the swift (on paper) is faster with a better mpg even the 1.8 mx5 is only a tiny bit faster then the swift and the swift is more practical as in 4 seats and a bigger boot I really can't see any possative sides to the mx5 as of yet

It's more fun, pretty big positive in most petrol heads book.

Yea that's why I was debating on getting the mx5 but I from what iv seen of the swift vvt 1.6 sport is that it's just as sporty (apart from hight) the suspension on swift is better then the mk2

Owning a 1.6 SSS, I can tell you, on the motorway is not somewhere you want to be in that car unless you like the following:

Bleeding ears
Bad back
Tiredness

The SSS is fantastic, it's great warm hatch, but on the A roads and town, anything outside of that (i.e. motorway) it's a poor show as there's no 6th gear and 5th is geared to just 500rpm lower than 4th. Run over a cat's eye and all four wheels will get air as the suspension is so stiff. If you blow on the throttle, you might make 38mpg average.

Would I change it? No :D

Can't be as bad as my punto I changed the suspension to a stiff sport one much more fun to drive after installing it but hit any bumps and my god u can feel it lmao but that was part of the fun I guess for a 1.2 8v car I'm only getting 33.9 mpg (well I guess I do have a heavy toe lol) my punto on the motorway I had to sit at 60mph cus it didn't want to go much faster and when I did get to 70 after about 30mins at 70 the engine warning light popped up, it cleared after a bit but on the way home I drove at 60 all the way to play safe

No the £300 is the dif from the 1.6 to 1.8 the instance will e for me about £2400 a year on the 1.6 and £2700 for the 1.8 the instance is so high because of the area I live in

That's absolutely nuts!! I was paying £800 fc at 19 for my '5

You don't happen to live in the BB postcode area do you? I'm paying 2500 for my car, and I'm 23 with 1yr NCB :( Most import specialist brokers didn't even want to touch me due to living in BB.

HaHa, I used to live in Burnley. Now live in Moss Side, Manchester and it is even worse. Really should get out tha ghetto.

mx5 no question. It's a much more fun car IMO. Though the swift is a fun little car, the mx5 is just a more complete package in terms of pure driving pleasure. If you're not interested in that, then the swift is fine.

Personally I'd get the 1.8is - comes with a limited slip diff, and sure, it's not going to be fast and the furious floor panel rippingly fast, but it will put a grin on your face even just going to shops.

Then you can get it to around 240bhp and REALLY enjoy yourself! :D :D :D

If your not in it for pure driving pleasure and and don't mind not getting too sideways in the wet, I'd go for the swift, end of the day it is much more practical and can still put a big smile on your face on the correct roads. As others have said on the motorway it's a ball ache tbh, 70mph will see you just shy of 4krpm and you will average 35mpg if you drive sensibly, hoon it down a decent B road and that figure will half on the display. The interior will develop or already have a rattle of some sort. Seats are nice and it's got enough power for most in town.

Mine on the roads it likes.

I actually want a mx5 mk3.5 sport next but finances won't allow at the moment. It's a totally different type of car to own really, you need to drive both but also decide if you can live with 2 seats and small boot and soft top (unless you pay for a hard top I guess) Ive decided its time I can.

From Burnley TO Moss Side?! I think the idea is to settle into nicer areas when you move, not worse :p I feel for you man. Luckily, I live nearer Padiham, rather than the more... infamous areas. Still doesn't make a jot of difference to insurance though :o

To quote Terry Tibbs, talk to me.

I'd love to Housey but I'm jobless at the moment (made redundant, Just been doing agency work here and there) So we are living on one wage packet at the moment, Hoping to get settled into a secure job early next year.

Other things to note about the Swift for the OP.

Tyres are going to set you back about £100 a corner for anything decent. (strange size 195/45/17, But more widely available sizes will fit)
If you do go for the Swift make sure you turn the ESP on and off and make sure it works correctly, Broken ESP was a £1k+ job at dealers last time I checked (Luckily mine was replaced under warranty) and it's more common than they would like to admit.
and finally remember you are stuck to using premium fuels 98ron+ with these little things, Not a problem if like me you do sod all miles but could be if you need to use the car a lot.

Not expensive compared to a premium car but it's a tad expensive for what it is at times I feel. MX5 I'd imagine could be cheaper to run.
