People that can't hold their drink

I'm happy to say that I'm one of those people that can handle alcohol, but then I don't drown myself in booze when I drink. I keep going until I get a light buzz going then stop with just the odd 'maintenance' drink once an hour. Anything beyond that is asking for a hangover.

My dad on the other hand couldn't handle the drink. Three whiskeys and a beer and he's the most irritating annoying *** hole on the planet.

I think it's because of that I can't stand being around stupid, annoying tanked up louts.

Whilst I empathise entirely with what you are saying, I don't see why you cite it as a reason not to drink yourself. Perhaps that's because I've been in the pub myself for the majority of today, but are you really saying that you don't trust yourself not to get in the same situation?

At the end of the day its all about knowing your limits. Some people know when to call it a day. Others don't. How much experimentation do you allow?

British people don't drink far more than Europeans, though. We drink less than the French/Portuguese/Austrians/Czechs/etc, and a tiny bit more than Spain/Germany/etc. That's OECD data, btw, http://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/sites/...al/18147364&accessItemIds=&mimeType=text/html.

Presumably you'll say about the ~British binge drinking~, but, other than anecdotal evidence, can you evidence we do that more than others? Then is the British way of drinking any worse than the Continental (if there is one) way? I mean, for example, we have similar numbers of liver cirrhosis deaths compared with Italy/France/Spain (per 100 000 people) - http://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/sites/...book/health_glance-2009-en&mimeType=text/html.

From my anecdotal evidence, the continentalites tend to drink quite a lot, spread through the day and drink pretty often, but in smaller quantities.

It's easy to know your "limits when you're sober and of clear mind. It's a different story when you've had a few drinks, as you don't feel too drunk, so you have a few more and then it suddenly hits you. There are people who go out with the intention to get as drunk as possible, no doubt, however the majority are just naive. They'll grow up some day and learn from their mistakes. They don't need old men and women to tell them how to live their lives. That's just what I think.

I will get absolutely wrecked on occasion while out, but always ambulatory and capable of sorting myself out in terms of home. I'll never go out without a plan - knowing when I'm leaving, and how. I've gotten drunk enough that I've been sick (one of the worst things ever in terms of my social conscience, tbh, I feel worse about that than the hangover the next day), broken bottles or been a loud ass in the street but never, ever, gotten into a situation where the emergency services have had to be inconvenienced by my nonsense.

Does come to mind on some of these cop shows that a number of the people involved in ambulance calls would simply meet my personal mantra of "It'll be alright in the mornin'... carry on."

If I'm going to get utterly discombobulated, I'll leave that for house parties or drinking at home. Then I can just drop wherever I please, and not on a street corner.

I was driving my beautfiull smart car down a nice london road tonight at about 10 pm and out of no where i see a ******* drunk kid in his teens just pop out in front of my car, I was metres away from hitting him :|

Imagine if I hit him? The damage to my smart car :(

Comparing to rave nights where there was never any problems

This.
In all my times at raves, there has never been any issues like this, everyone is to ****** to be bothered and generally love life/each other. It's always the ****heads coming from somewhere else to crash the party that cause the problems.

I think everyone is entitled to getting absolutely guttered at least a few times in their life. It's the quick and hard way to learning your limits, I would say it's a good learning experience.

However this problem goes deeper as people these days lack self-discipline.
My magic rule for life is to treat everything in moderation, having an extreme of one thing is usually never a good thing, balance is the key.

Yet people are just way to easily influenced by the "English drinking culture" and peer pressure. It's just a sign of a weak character.

I'm not saying that booze should be banned or anything of the sort, I myself enjoy a good drink and a messy night out. It's just unfortunate that people these days are so ignorant to their own actions that causes negative externalities on the rest of society.

I can't wait for the day that our current generation starts moaning once we get older about various health issues since they didn't treat themselves right from a young age.

That's to the heart of it, tbh. The kind of people that do this regularly really just don't give a turd. They've had their drunken fun... so what if that stab victim three streets away couldn't be seen to? Not that they consider that, to start, though.

Total abandonment of consideration or conscience. Sad.

I have been blindo a few 100 times, never that drunk i cannot walk though.

I just stand there and think "im ****ed, im going home". Beer doesn't properly hit me till i walk into my house... Then what ever happens from then, i do not remember, ever :)

I can't hold my drink...my cup does.

I really don't understand binge drinking, having a few or an amount that gets a nice buzz going is fine but if you were to graph it you'd find the positives quickly drop off into negatives beyond a certain point, the loss of awareness gets too much and you start to feel worse, then there's all the silliness and a worse hangover that goes with it, i guess people are just idiots that don't learn and have no sense of moderation?

I wouldn't say its peer pressure. Ive had a couple of Peroni, feel good and about to go out. Granted I am only taking cash so cant overspend. 6 - 10 beers for me is good, spirits and redbull on top isn't.

But I would prefer 2 pints before going out then clean MDMA all the time. No hangover, fantastic night, remember everything, cheaper, no trouble. I have never really understood the post night depression, I sometimes feel a bit 'empty' but that's still better than a hangover

Time to plan an Ibiza 2013 trip I think. I wonder how many ocuk people would be up for a '2013 Ibiza meet'

Drink drink drink drink, drink drink drink drink, drink drink drink drink, drink!

Saying that I've only lost memory a handful of times, and have always been able to find my way home without issue (even in cities I haven't been to before). Never been in a fight or accident (well, I got mugged/assaulted once), and haven't even thrown up in over a year.

Sometimes I lose my memory before I appear that I'm drunk. I think my brain just says 'quick, we can get away with it!' and stops recording. I've been known to repeat questions 10 seconds after I've asked them :o
