I'd bought two a few months ago and have not got round to overclocking them.

I've tried some small overclocks, like +50 on the cores but even that is causing crashes, either i'm doing something wrong or they are awful overclockers.

Tried increasing voltage but made no difference, tried power limit to +10 and again it still crashes.

So I don't get it, how do you overclock these things?

Sorry I wasn't clear: I meant what speed does it boost to when it's actually plugged in? The 600 series are clever in that they boost to difference speeds out the box.

Unfortunately you don't get much control on overclocking with them so it's possibly yours is at its limit.

You need to max out the core and memory voltage before overclocking.

core + 100mv
mem+ 50mv
power limit up to as high as it will go

This should let you put at an extra 50 on the core which should take you up to around 1250mhz-1300mhz ingame core.

Then the memory should go up to at least +300 (6600mhz) but most people are getting +500 (7000mhz).

Is it really safe to max the voltage? seems allot for a small overclock... anyway, I'll check clockspeeds in-game and report back..

EDIT: Okay, the clockspeeds reported by GPUZ are 1215.

LOL I had the exact same question when I first done mine :)

Yes it is more than safe and msi covers overclocking in there warranty :)

100mv may sound like a lot but it's reallly really small amount I think its just 0.01v

Well I tried +100 Voltage, Power Limit at +114 and it still crashed with a 50 core overclock.

I guess the cards are already near there limit, I know the cards overclock themselves but it was so satisfying doing it yourself and seeing the benchmark results increase.

Oh well. :(

Try plus 30 then :) It can still make a massive difference to your scores.

what does msi afterburner show you boosting up to? It will probably be higher than you think :)

No idea what it was boosting to with +50 as it kept crashing, however +35 worked.

However the clockspeed in-game reads as 1228 which is only a clockspeed increase of 13MHz vs 1215 which it normally runs at. :o

Are your temperatures staying below 70c because if not if wont clock as high.

Well if +35 core worked then what I would do is drop it down to +30 on the core for stability and then work on the memory :)

I would start by trying +30 core and +250 memory. :)
+100mv
+50mv

The memory overclocks make a massive difference in games and benchmarks so this is the important one :)

Always been my experience that the memory clocks don't make much difference at all in games and only in benchmarking

Have you tried a 660ti?

With the smaller memory bus this is the main thing holding them back :)

Still wouldn't have thought it'd make such a difference. Good for the OP to know though and give it a try!

For me in bf3 1080p 4xmsaa mulitplayer its an extra 10 frames on the minimum.

In 3dmark11 its 650 points.

OP, as imginy says. you get a fair boost overclocking the memory only.

I found EVGA Precision X to be better than MSi Afterburner if that helps.

Tried +35 with +500 memory and gained 500pts in 3dmark11. Pushed the score over 14k which is better than nothing I guess

Bit pointless, I think most of that came from the memory overclock, I'll try the memory overclock in games and see how it goes, might drop it to 400 though.

Thanks for the help everyone. :)

Im glad you got a good memory overclock it makes all the difference. :)

What are you using to measure your core clock?
