After a very rocky start, can confirm, when these alienware laptops work, boy do they work. They are like mini rockets...
fired up Metro 2033 and was greedy, set everything to high DX11, apart from DOF and Phyisx enabled as these are killers for any GPU etc, FRAPS wasn't on so didn't get fps but it was smooth, smoothest i've ever played Metro 2033.
Fan noise is high, but what you expect. i've seen these machines totally ripped apart, they are designed to vent the heat out very well, the parts are very well placed. i've seen its potential but what a total nightmare I've had getting there though.
Dell have just sent details on my replacement. Its the same machine as I've already got, no surprise but EDD is 14/01/2013 - so thats not too bad.
least this machine is working, but honestly guys. if you see a spec like my sig pop up in the outlet come 20th or ish of Jan 2013 - steer clear of it. Its maybe my current alienware.. lol
Anyhow thus far I have noticed keyboard shows finger prints easily, touchpad is nice, screen is nothing short of amazing, performance is mind blowing and the alienware FX is sweet.. Like how it changes as you play games.
the port arrangement is well thought out, the media bar is easy to get to and out the way when playing games, cant find a way to disable the win keys, odd for a gaming machine.
you can disable the touchpad, the speakers are very good, but its amazing with headphones and the THX software..
it is such a shame I had such issues to start with, its ruined a lot of what I was looking forward to with this machine.. Hopefully put that behind me and move on and enjoy what i've not got and play some games..
Dell need to improve their customer service, the biggest issue is the language barrier, they follow scripts and if you ask something they don't know then it all goes horribly wrong.
Dell techs, guys out in the field, well guy who tried to fix this laptop was however superb and knew the machine inside out..
