Archos Gamepad

Damn this would be good for emulators and the like.

Some games such as FF3 are good on a touch screen, but you really do need dedicated buttons for most of the classics.

Pity no one has them in stock anywhere.

They're just about to do the US launch in early January so I doubt it's going to get any better but from the Archos website they say the next UK delivery will be in the second part of january.

The only grumble I have with this tablet is the battery only lasts 3 or 4 hours of gaming, but I guess I can just plug it in or stick an external pack on the back of it.

So high quality games run well too? Was watching a video where Nova 3 seemed to be running really badly.

I think the only qualm I have after watching videos and looking at images is that although it has that great tool for mapping buttons to screen controls the screen contros seem to need to stay on screen... The only thing devs have to do to make it work perfectly is to add an alpha setting so we can set it to 0.

I've only found one emulator that won't let you hide the onscreen controls, can't remember which one.

Modern Combat 4 seems to run perfectly, dunno about Nova 3 though, have you got a link to the video?

That sounds better I guess it was just the places I was looking. I think it would be mostly emulators I would be playing. I think the graphically intense games I would still be playing on my nexus 10 for the screen size.

The video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmFOsGwHTZU&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Though is does seem to me after watching the full video that nova does not have a control scheme that would work well with the pad anyway.

That video was December the 17th .... with the old firmware, Modern Combat 4 was the same, it was fixed by a new firmware release on the 27th.

i'll install nova 3 to confirm. :)

1.7Gb ..... maybe not.

There was a problem with the button mapper that caused lag and problems when multiple buttons were pressed at once. Modern Combat 4 *was* unplayable, which was pretty annoying as I paid a fiver for it. on the 27th Archos released a new firmware fixing the button mapper and now MC4 runs perfectly.

I'm really happy with it, played it more in the last week, than the 5 years I owned a PSP!

Good news, I did think it looked choppy for the quad core gfx processor that's in it.

My old PSP is still my go to place for emulation but the screen is small, low Res and dim by today's standards. Pretty sure I'm going to get one when they're back in. I think the game I'm looking forward to most is pew pew 2 and maybe other dual stick shooters.

How well does the N64 emu run? I am looking forward to playing Fzero x.

Full speed but has some issues with the sky, but perfectly playable.
