I need a new QR skewer for my Cycleops TT urgently. Anyone know where I can buy one in London? Have been to Evans at Canary Wharf and they have none :(

Next day delivery online is acceptable also, but only from a reputable store.

Suggest away.

*Edit* Tredz to the rescue. Annoying you can't specify Next Day though*

It doesn't really look to be a huge change hardware wise other than adding bluetooth to connect to a smart phone to give you things like real time updates, weather conditions etc. I suppose these are kind of features that were available by apps on smart phones anyway, so they naturally needed to have them too.

I don't think I'll be upgrading from my Edge 800.

Ballot for the Ride London 100 now closed. Fingers crossed! Who else entered?

I did back when it was first announced.
Really hoping I get in as its kind of my training goal for this year and motivation. I can't remember what I put down now for my estimated finishing time, but I seem to recall realising it was far too optimistic!

There are 20,000 places, not sure how many of which will be allocated to charities. The ballot would be closed if it reached 75,000 applications and that never happened... so I'm not really sure what the odds are and how they will even be picked. At random by a computer I guess?

Doesn't seem a massive advance. At least I wont feel as outdated now :)

A friend of mine has entered. It would be good to do I think, but the transport to London, a place to stay etc would just be more than I'd want to pay. And it would be even more awkward if only myself got through the ballot. I wouldn't want to do it on my own. Much better with friends.

DC Rainmaker has done his usual in-depth review. His bullet point summary is:

Pros:

- Cell phone integration for quick access to online workouts/courses
- Living Tracking works well
- Clean and clear mapping
- Routable navigation
- Supports major ANT+ cycling accessories
- New cleaner interface
- Easy uploading of rides via cell or PC

Cons:

- Bluetooth 2.1, not Bluetooth 4.0 (no Bluetooth Smart support)
- Cell phone integration seems half-baked, rushed
- Default map set (basemap) completely useless

I entered with my other half's sister's boyfriend (confused?), though he put down a faster time than me and I expect the start will be done in waves.

Yeah I assume thats how it will be done, with the faster times starting later in the morning.

I would imagine with the logistics involved that there will be no option to change now either, which is likely annoying if you got it wrong and for those who want to ride with somebody else. I also wasn't a member of British Cycling when I signed up, so would like to add those details in, I don't know whether that counts for you being more likely to get a place or not.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who got the timing wrong anyways.

One thing that isn't clear though is that whether the Ride London Classic with the Pro Racers will be on exactly the same course. Given that it starts at 12:30 and the Ride London 100 is billed as being like the London Marathon on bikes, I can't see the course being anywhere near clear.

I commute 90 minutes every day in your average pair of jeans on my bike that fits perfect!

Done 5+ hour rides, london to brighton etc, wearing the same jeans rolled up an casual tshirts

You really dont need lycra to ride a road bike!
I commute for about the same sort of time so I'm guessing ~10 miles each way? I'd wear through my jeans in about 2 weeks :D

I've done a 116 mile ride in jeans shorts, I just find I'm a lot more comfortable in dedicated gear and then get changed at work. What with all the sweating, road grime, exhaust and sweat smell etc etc.

Same. That and my coccyx bone got smashed to pieces the first week that I started cycling with normal clothes.

I have the 500 already but might upgrade to an 810. Full colour GPS mapping will be full of win on our HWCC Reliability Trials this month.

I did 37 miles the previous summer on my road bike in a pair of heavy cotton canvas shorts, as I was going to an event with some friends and we thought riding there was the best option given the gorgeous weather.

That was a mistake I'll never make again!

For one, my bum was absolutely killing having ridden without a chamois. Secondly, you forget how good bike shorts are at wicking sweat on a very hot day, so I wasn't exactly comfortable. Finally, due to the saddle height, I ended up ripping the crotch of my shorts, something I didn't spot until nearly home... embarrassing!

I think wearing any kind of cycling clothing for commuting makes sense just from the hygiene point of view. Sure, you might look hip in your skinny jeans, bombing to work on your fixie, but I wouldn't want to be a sweaty mess in the office and I'm sure other people would appreciate you changing clothes first too!
